My lab's very first manuscripts are out!!!! - We identified nearly 60 conserved RNA structures in plastids #chloroplast #RNA - We found that transcriptional response to warm temperatures in whole seedling is confounded by response at organ level #thermomorphogenesis Link to both preprints below

Are plant roots really made up of concentric layers of homogeneous, differentiating cell types? In our new study, out now in @nature.com, we show a more complex picture: two distinct cell states within root lineages, shaped in part by the environment. 🧵👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Our preprint now peer-reviewed and published 🌾🔬🧬 Grasses have a signature short-long leaf epidermal pattern: small stomata & hair cells spaced by long pavement cells, but how is it built? Premitotic BdPL1 sets cell-size asymmetry; postmitotic BdBRX-solo/BdYDA1 enforces fate. doi.org/10.1016/j.cu...

🌾 Every grass leaf shares the same repeating short-long cell pattern in its epidermis. Our new #preprint identifies the protein that builds it. 🔬🧬 📄 preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... 🧵⬇️ 1/11

🌾🧬 Warming alters how rice roots split carbon between growth and respiration. Cortical cell expansion peaks at ~28°C; extremes shift carbon toward respiration. ABA mutants show reduced sensitivity. Root physiology matters for plant-soil carbon fluxes. #plantscience academic.oup.com/plphys/artic...

Check out this really cool study where @matthiaserb.bsky.social's lab used Kalanchoë laxiflora to study volatile uptake routes and found that stomatal and non-stomatal pathways both play a role. Again, this project idea came from an inspiring visit and discussion with @jameshartwell.bsky.social!

Here is our experimental answer to the question of how plant leaves take up volatiles. Tested with the very cool Kalanchoë laxiflora, which has two types of leaves with opposite stomatal opening patterns. With @heikelindner.bsky.social and colleagues. Happy reading! t.co/aU77BZTqYV

A massive update: At least ~15 companies~ are selling scientists antibodies using faked validation data. We've documented 18,000+ manipulated images on 17,000+ products sold by leading laboratory suppliers including Thermo Fisher, Abcam, Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Millipore Sigma and Bio-Techne. 1/🧵

I cannot recommend this opportunity enough! Amazing science with truly fantastic people! Not to mention the beautiful Botanical Gardens 5 feet away!
