20 states and the FTC are suing Dollar General for repeatedly overcharging shoppers more at checkout than what's advertised on the shelves. Tens of thousands of customer complaints between January 2023 and March 2026 allege millions of dollars in overcharges across 21,000+ stores. 🧵

When should trans women have their first breast cancer screening? Most doctors don't know, said one expert. And an estimated 700,000 trans women in the U.S. are effectively excluded from the screening guidelines which have for years been the key to early detection of breast cancer in cis women.

You can't expect the New York Times to give any attention to a story about the president being credibly accused of violent rape when the story breaks so close to an election. It's not like we're talking about something *really* important, like email security protocols.

A Proverbs 31 woman is not a woman who brings no income into the household and struggles to get her family through financial hardship. She has her own money. She's buying land, establishing and running vineyards. She engages in trade.

A parable that explicitly talks about how a woman makes money for her family has become an admonition to young women who dare to violate their husband's physical, financial, and spiritual sovereignty over them, and instead to work themselves to the bone and be grateful for what little they have.

And the actual words--like so much of the Bible--mean absolutely nothing in the wake of a spiritual movement that is more about enforcing social power hierarchies where white men are always on top than it is about anything taught in the Old or New Testaments.

It's not directly stated that servants care for her children while she's taking care of the business of running her household, because it's not needed. She's rich. No one expects her to spend her days caring for children. They expect her to spend her days keeping her family rich...

...which is what the Proverbs 31, "character of a noble wife" is all about! But somehow today, the Proverbs 31 woman spends her days trying to dig her numerous family out of the financial hole her irresponsible husband has dug for them without threatening his ego by making money herself.

And you know what's not mentioned even once in Proverbs 31? Hands-on childcare. She buys and spin wools and flax, then sells the excess for profit. She rises early to ensure her household is fed. She runs her own agriculture ventures, oversees trade, and literally keeps the light in her home on.

She's dealing with merchants and servants and helping the poor, but you know what she's not doing? Spending time with her kids. She's too busy. Plus, she's a rich woman, and rich women have had servants to help raise their children for as long as there have been rich women.

I've seen folks explain away the work the actual Proverbs 31 woman did by saying, "But she worked at home! And most of the work she did herself with her children! She wasn't leaving her children with strangers, and she was content to be a homemaker!" The woman was running multiple *businesses*.

Her "office" was her home, but so were most men's. A household *was* the business. Her husband likely went further afield more to manage his affairs, but she wasn't buying up fields and starting vineyards not to show up and manage them.

Yes, she's industrious, but her industriousness is not limited to her own home and is not restricted to labor that does not earn income. With *her* earnings, she keeps her household running well with fine things and adds to her husband's business enterprises.

So explain to me how modern churches got from a wealthy woman who is industrious and a good businesswoman and runs a whole household of servants, to a woman who earns no money and is fully subservient to her broke ass husband who expects her to run their home and raise their kids on no money.

She sells excess goods produced by her household--which is not a simple house, but an estate apparently with multiple properties--on the market. She's not putting herself and her children in worn hand-me-downs. Her household is clothed in scarlet. She herself is clothed in fine linen.

I talked to Sakariye Abdi Mohamed, a Somali asylum seeker who was arrested at work, while he was imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay. I called him again once he was deported to Mogadishu. Here's what he had to say.

In August, the Trump administration flew 12 Somali immigrants to an ICE facility at Guantanamo Bay. “Nobody tell us that we’re going to Guantanamo Bay,” Sakariye Abdi Mohamed told journalist Amanda Moore in a phone call from the detention facility. “Just like kidnapping.”

Major press failure: treating Jared Kushner taking foreign bribes and shaping US foreign policy as less relevant than Hunter Biden not taking bribes nor influencing policy. Covering Kushner accurately was considered partisan, biased. Lies about Hunter or his minor actions treated as more important.

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

Everyone who is saying "Dems in red states have to throw trans people under the bus to win" -- no. They don't. When they do that, we just start with no winning options on the table. It gives in to the fascist premise that we get to decide some groups don't get rights. THIS is what I want to see.

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

It's been interesting to watch how quickly the mental goal posts have moved regarding the "we're transing YOUR children!" mailers that went out last week. MAGA has gone from, "OMG! They're transing our children!" to "It doesn't matter who sent the mailers. They're still transing our children."

Republicans will defend *anything*, which I guess isn't surprising given the decade of gleeful support they've given Trump's virulent bigotry, history of rape, and close ties to and cover up of a massive trafficking ring of underage girls.

It's almost like being morally repugnant makes them happy because being cruel, corrupt, and criminal in public is both a form of honesty they understand as it aligns with their long privately held views, and they get pleasure from watching how much it sickens Democrats.

It's the same with the Ramaswamy ad that features Amy Acton's mother. Even ignoring the predictable pro-child rapist reactions from Trump/Vance, rank and file Republicans will defend the ad because "It doesn't matter what happened with her stepdad, because Amy *is* an unhinged liar."
