How any fan can read this and think the FAI or these players represent them is utterly beyond me, and while I have some sympathy for the players, their refusal to speak to the media is an unparalleled act of arrogance and cowardice that is not being discussed at all.

The Journal@thejournal.ie

The day began in the press conference room at the FAI’s headquarters in west Dublin and would continue in a meeting room of an Oireachtas Joint Committee on Sport that has become like an FAI timeshare retreat. This was just another pre-match for the Republic of Ireland. jrnl.ie/7178710

An assault happened in Sligo. Theres been very limited details, other then something happened and someone was seriously hurt. The priorities of people with hate filled agendas has led to them arguing in comments online over whether the group they want to demonise are travellers or immigrants.

Keep sports out of politics so. No civic receptions of sporting people. No news coverage along side political issues. No addressing corruption/fairness. No public funding, promotion, or material support for sporting amenities/events. ...oh are ethics/resources/power relevant to sports after all..🙄

Reading and listening to some things this morning about Ireland's "win" over Israel last night, and I just want to put a few things straight, both for the Irish players and the FAI, and some of the people commenting. 1. By playing the game last night, the Irish players made all of us - the ...

That’s it. There was no stand off, somehow, during the pogroms. There were no attempt at policing. There were not that many calls for the enforcement of the law. There were no announcement made that this was unlawful. But again, we all know where Lockhart was

Elaine Crory@elainecrory.bsky.social

Listening to Carla Lockhart on the radio and its curious that this is the first time she has noticed police allowing the law to be broken before their eyes. This was a peaceful protest and not a pogrom mind you

They did the one thing their own country asked them not to do - they played. None of their pathetic "protests" matter.

Reading comments from Hallgrimsson about how difficult the last few days have been for his soup-takers & what the potential consequences might have been for Irish football. I'd love to ask player Suleiman Obeid what the consequences of genocide are for Palestinians, but I can't. Israel killed him.

Irish football team beat Israel 3 nil. By appeasing sportswashing of a genocidal regime, & doing a ‘both sides’ statement, Ireland lost in the eyes of history. Their appeasement is second only to their lack of sportsmanship. Only one man stood for humanity by refusing to play. They are complicit.

the42.ieAs it happened: Israel v Ireland, Nations LeagueIreland faced Israel, after a fractious few days that divided players in the Boys in Green camp.

Thanks to the footballers pathetic attempt to make themselves feel better for crossing the picket line, is that every media outlet is talking about black armbands with the vague bothsideing term "conflict". The irish team softened the phrasing away from genocide. Fuck them. #spéirghorm

A boycott is a tactic, based on principles, it not a principle in itself. A boycott is a collective action to achieve a strategic long term goal that requires or is benefited by such actions. it is not a personal stance though it is often driven by peoples strong personal principles and feelings.

I don't like going to tesco but sometimes I do cos its convenient but when the tesco workers were on a picket and asked us not to go in, I wouldnt cross it in a million years. There has to be a picket for you to pass, there has to be a boycott for you to breach. And if you do theres consequences.

Maybe folks doing the whataboutisms dont understand the difference between tactics and principles. But I think its disingenious. If someone cared about xyz issue, theyd be too busy telling us about the solidarity action they organised and not using it to undermining anothers struggle.

When I dont buy nestle im participating in a global boycott, when I choose not to go to a local business cos the owner is bad on workers rights, thats a personal stance, if I do go into the business I might not like it but theres no collective action being undermined by me doing so.

There is no hypocrisy in boycotting israel in one context and not another place doing a bad thing where there is no boycott campaign. Anyone asking but why didn't you boycott this other thing are just revealing they don't know the difference between a tactic and principle.

we really don't talk enough about the utter contempt certain quarters of the southern political and media establishment have for northern nationalists. not in a subtle way, not in an "if you think about it" way, just open disgust and disdain for people they would rather didn't exist

Also - I don't care how you voted, you're getting no sympathy for me. You had the chance to do the right thing, and you didn't. You still have the chance to do the right thing, but you won't. Not even the smallest violin for you, you coward. How dare you pull on an Irish shirt.

Philip O'Connor@philipoconnor.bsky.social

I think it's only right & proper that each player tells the Irish public - the people they are there to represent - how they voted & whether or not they support the principled stance taken by their team-mate, Gavin Bazunu. But, cowards that they are, they won't speak to the media in this window.

And as for whoever turned on Bazunu, just go. Never darken the door of Irish football again, you worthless boot-licker.

On a night a community waits on tenderhooks, to treat a serious issue like this jst to make a needlessly bitchy comment to troll people who want a railway... Genuine amenity campaigns don't engage in such disgusting anonymous online trolling. This is low even for collooney greenways campaign.

the tram network in Dublin was so good people travelled from all over the world to study it as a model for tram networks in their own cities

Oisín McGann@oisinmcgann.bsky.social

Ireland used to have a much more extensive rail network. The small town I live in has a building that was once a train station, now there’s hardly a working stretch of passenger track in the entire county. Dublin and Belfast both had well established electric tram networks in the NINETEEN-TWENTIES.

Im resting and put on the film Blackkklansman, but its warm and Ive the windows open and now im like if the neighbours dont know this movie esp the opening first few minutes, it just sounded like I was listening to the most feckin racist thing ever😐 thanks Spike Lee! lol

Been trying to free up some mental space for myself, last friday I finally finished a bit of work that Id been tipping away with for months trying to get done and Im so used to the guilt/oh god I need to get that done vibe that its weird today being like oh thats actually off the do list!

I notice the consequences of sf position on coursing is focused on voting /left credentials and not like.... the hares or the campaign to ban coursing. The value of assessing where someone stands on an issue is to establish is if they will support, be movable or actively work against. 1/

Its about who you engage with and how. So if you dont think a group will support a policy, strategy needs to account for that and since nobody think its an ideological position but a populist one then from a strategy perspective that identifies SF needs to be engaged with more, not less. 2/

So whilst my first thought was ffs sinn fein this is ridiculous, I dont respect this. My second thought was well those of us who are against coursing obviously have a lot more work to do to change that dynamic and we have to account for the people who dont agree as much as those who do.

I disagree with the logic of this decision. I also note this reasoning isn't applied when discussing the decriminalisation of drugs so its also inconsistently applied. I don't understand the context of talking about being obsessed or it being a sensitive issue, I find those comments bizarre.

The Journal@thejournal.ie

Sinn Féin is to vote against a hare coursing ban on the grounds that it would have "unintended consequences". Mary Lou McDonald says the party is "not obessed" with the issue, and she believes it doesn't decide "whether you're on the right or the left". www.thejournal.ie/sinn-fein-ha...

Why do why do people look for engagement on this site when they just want want to get ratty when you do. The increasing levels ofwell actually responses and weird low level hostile vibes even when your agreeing or building on someones point really putting me off engaging on here.

Folks may not have noticed, ILMI have moved off twitter and on to bsky so pls make sure to give them a follow and support orgs that have made the move to build their following here and reach more people with all the cool (disabled person led!) work going on in disability rights! #spéirghorm

I see the term DPOs (disabled persons organisations) being use by people who dont seem to understand what it means. A DPO is not just any group/campaign with a disabled person or with a disability related remit. They cannot be individual activists, they are definitely NOT service providers. 1/

The CRPD clarifies exactly what representative bodies states should engage with look like, to account for what has historically happened, non disabled people speaking for us, tokenisation, infantalisation, an inability to recognise the autonomy and agency of disabled people in their own lives. 3/

DPOs are not just another group, it means a specific thing, and its clearly defined for very important specific reasons, and all of that is to ensure disabled people are empowered to realise their rights and have a say over what life they want to live.

DPOs are not just a group, they are specific structures as defined in the CRPD. They are collective , rights based, mandated, democratic (and accountable) representative bodies. They are most importantly, led by and for disabled people. 2/
