You want to reform ICE? You can’t. You want to hold ICE accountable? Under DHS? You can’t. This is unfixable. Abolish ICE.

Kavanaugh stops in action: ICE tackled a non-verbal kid near his school, left him with injuries requiring surgery, and then left the scene when they realized he wasn't the person they were looking for www.independent.com/2026/10/23/i...

Not a new position or call - my oldest abolish ICE tshirt is from 2012. The agency has always been what it is, its budget keeps being inflated with every administration, benefiting from unparalleled bipartisan support. ICE is embedded in the fabric of US policing. It has to end.

Macron’s least appealing trait is his constant stream of condescension and this is no different. But you can feel the juvenile frustration at the loss of control. Most importantly - of course it everything boils around election time. This isn’t new. This isn’t special. And he hates it.

Your reminder that transphobia isn’t an issue just for trans people and the broader queer community. Transphobia is an extreme right wing radicalisation vector. Transphobia is a form of xenophobia and the horseman never comes in alone. This isn’t a side issue but a warning sign. Protect trans people

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

I should point out that I am a college professor, and also gay (and a survivor of the AIDS crisis). The reason I am alive today is because we took to the streets many times back then, and I have learned my lesson. Also, I care about my students, and young people in general.

Please read Matthieu’s entire thread response to my post there, use the translation tool, ask me to translate if necessary. It’s important to hear why people took the streets on the 17th if they weren’t students, and why they came back down today. The answer is risk.

French protests tested my Irishness through on many an occasion. Large scale nationwide mobilisation is what makes la manif’ so well admired around the world. But I don’t think I’ve seen such numbers across two weeks. So consistent. So far-reaching. As I said, there’ll be a before and an after

Worth remembering that Ireland had a referendum where we put the rights of the child into the constitution despite those who campaigned against such rights. Also this attack on DRCC sends such a poor public message to teenagers (the actual video shows one teenager who likes hugs & one who doesn't)

Sacrificing human lives - those that will be kept in detention and those kidnapped in between - in the faint event there would be free presidential elections that Democrats, who have repeatedly increased ICE funding, would win - is not just unsustainable, it reeks of entitlement

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

To preempt any claim of partisanship I have absolutely no love for Sinn Fein whatsoever, but surely this should be the subject of much more in-depth investigation that this is the sole focus of one of the most contentious police operation in years. And then, there’s the name of the operation itself.

Operation Repreparation has been chosen, which, again, is more than odd. Preparing again for what? Preparing again for the return of violence on the Garvaghy Road? Preparing again for the violent policing intervention at the time? Operation Preparation would be silly, but I can’t shake this one off

And officials of the same party no less, including the First Minister and the party chief in the South. To my knowledge, no member of the public that took part in the blockade has been asked to come speak to police. And this, on a request from a rival party to the police.

The world discovering our loyalist paramilitaries and the danger and violence they’ve been inflicting on all of us for decades is vindicating, but the question is, is the UKgov going to accept they didn’t disarm them for a reason? Or that the proscription isn’t enforced?

And because I don’t want to wax lyrical about this. I think it’s too early; I think we are still too deep in the ICE and voters’ rights weeds to even contemplate the aftermath. But a core tenet of antifascism is vision and the difficulty to reach it.

I don’t think the midterms, assuming those would be free and fair elections, not yet guaranteed, would be the sweeping change most people expect. This goes beyond electoral politics, and crossing a bridge is not yet part of US political culture

Accountability after grave state crimes should be decided by and for the people. It is not up to people like me who are adopted New Yorkers and live back home to detail what the US would need. This is a core principle. We can help, but I think core mobilisation would have to be around change.
