patiently waiting for a Motion asking for a report on how we can do cost savings and/or get more value from existing and future municipal roads. There is obviously so much road space that could be sold off for housing, for starters

Fillmore and Austin are having a back and forth on the “circles” everyone is going on bike lane debates. Coun. Trish Purdy said she won’t support the deferral either.

Traffic Advisory - An unusual situation in the 300 block of Windmill Rd after a vehicle sliced through a building, ending up inside and luckily missing everyone inside. Emergency crews secured the vehicle and surrounding structure. Tow has not arrived on scene as of yet

Buildings should; (a) not exist near to roads (b) wear hi vis (c) paint eyes on walls (d) not step out in front of vehicles People in buildings should look both ways

Massively inequitable barrier. Kids on wealthier quiet suburban streets get to enjoy using them any time for play. There is hockey and basketball equipment on the street, signs and patrolling passive-aggressive parents.

many more who have protested by writing, contacting our councillor, etc, who can't take the time off work to attend in person. This was all very last minute.

What is up democracy superfans, it's Tuesday so that means it's council day and there is no parking at Grand Parade because there are a bunch of people here doing a protest against the motion to waste money on useless "bike" "safety" "infrastructure" and I'll be posting through it.

Councillors who do approve the cost-cutting non-AAA routes must accept the consequences - injury or death to users who are disadvantaged through age or disability. Because in our urban core of course a minimum grid of any kind will be used by kids, seniors, people with disabilities

Vision Zero Kjipuktuk-Halifax@visionzerokh.bsky.social

We hope Councillors will not pretend they are making a decision based on cost alone - because the report repeatedly and clearly sets out why the alternative routes will be "non-AAA" Would we approve a product design that is unsafe for children? Would we build an unsafe building for children?

Will the minimum bike grid be used by people with learning and physical disabilities, persons more vulnerable to impact due to old age, young kids cycling without adult supervision, other persons with cognitive or physical disadvantages? Absolutely yes, yes and yes.

Complex industrial firefighting at Hfx Grain Elevator. The fire is located about 135 feet above ground within the facility’s dust management system, presenting significant access and tactical considerations. Crew are operating deliberately and aggressively, supported by aerial and drone operations.

And Canada's reason for still not initiating sanctions against Israel is...? We ship goods to and from Israel from Ports here in Halifax

Patrick Doyle, the Bedford pedestrian/runner recently struck while on a sidewalk, is raising awareness on concussion as one impact of crashes. You can be sure this is needed on all levels, as we continue to prioritize traffic flow over safety in decision-making

this cannot have been a mistake. Given the report expressly outlines options not suited for seniors, children and people with disabilities, "all ages and abilities", that decision provides a horrible insight into HRM's culture & priorities

Laura White, P.Eng.@lecwhite.bsky.social

This should never have been on consent. It will come off.

"If you have been following HRM’s recent Active School Travel Baseline Study, you might take this opportunity to remind your councillor that “Lack of good cycling routes or bike infrastructure” was identified as one of the top 6 barriers to children using active modes to get to/from school"

Please contact your councillor about this. Council is talking about this on Tuesday. After being released on a Friday, it's been added to council CONSENT Agenda. What this means is that it could be automatically approved without debate.

I attended two of the budget consultation sessions hosted by Mayor Andy Fillmore on Saturday. The sessions were in Musquodoboit Harbour and Middle Musquodoboit (I didn't attend the third session in Sheet Harbour that day). I interviewed Fillmore and residents. www.halifaxexaminer.ca/government/c...

The last #KidicalMassHFX of 2026 was in the inner suburbs of Dartmouth. Thanks to the organizers for another fabulous year! Our fine city’s Kidical Mass is and remains my favourite Halifax thing. /1

100% agree. @samaustind5.bsky.social. Also, this plan trades a cycling network that would attract new cyclists for one that people will be afraid to use.

Safe Kjipuktuk@safehrm.bsky.social

This is a very comprehensive response from @cyclehalifax.ca Bear in mind this report was discovered just this Friday, so this was an avoidable scramble. Shareable with your councillor. cyclehalifax.ca/advocacy/let...

never mind safety, a major project that downgrades the SPEED of vehicles would be unthinkable and would cause widespread revolt

In truth building something which openly downgrades the safety of vehicle occupants would be unthinkable and would cause widespread revolt. Making bike lanes unsafe for kids to ensure we maintain road space for cars - thinkable.

these beauts are better than trains imo, because they are flexible in terms of route deployment and connect with other buses and the street network Terrible and useless if stuck in traffic however

I challenge this municipality to construct one thing by 2031 that truly prioritizes pedestrians. Argyle Street doesn't count because it doesn't include safe crossing connections to and from it

Given this is a transportation issue, we question why this key report was not presented to the Transportation Standing Committee first, where public participation is permitted - their meeting last week was cancelled due to a light agenda. Downgrading AAA facilities must have public scrutiny & input

Safe Kjipuktuk reposted

This is egregious! I’m in a car, instead of on my bike, for most trips in Halifax-Dartmouth because I feel unsafe in anything but a protected bike lane. That and no secure places to lock my bike. Also, if not AAA, than who is left out?

What if instead of spending $726,000 for a bike route people would use we spend $451,000 on a bike route no one will use. We can waste $451,000 but make it seem like we're saving $275,000 because council wouldn't recognize good fiscal decision making if it ran them over in an unprotected bike lane.

Council will review an "Alternatives for 2028/29 and 2029/30 AAA Bicycle Network Capital Projects" at the Regional Council meeting on Tuesday. Review the segments up for route changes and no longer all ages and abilities, contact your Councillor. pub-halifax.escribemeetings.com/filestream.a...
