I'm Co-Chair of Halifax Cycling Coalition, working hard to make cycling in Halifax safer, more convenient and more joyful. In this role, I focus first and foremost on the 60% of the population who would cycle more if it felt safe.

A report going to @hfxgov.bsky.social Council tomorrow is deeply concerning. Read our latest article outlining why: Six Critical Questions Council must ask before downgrading Halifax's AAA Bicycle Network visionzerohfx.ghost.io/six-critical...
HCC has issued a call to action: write your councillor and/or show up at council meeting with your bike helmet on, in silent protest. Details here: mailchi.mp/cyclehalifax...
HCC has sent a letter to Council raising strenuous objections to the staff report calling for cost-saving alternatives to 7 bike facility projects while in most cases degrading safety and directness. Read it here: cyclehalifax.ca/advocacy/let... #bikehfx
Many of us are planning to come to the Council meeting and sit in silent protest with our bike helmets on.
Please contact your councillor about this. Council is talking about this on Tuesday. After being released on a Friday, it's been added to council CONSENT Agenda. What this means is that it could be automatically approved without debate.
Here is a summary table from our letter documenting the degradations of the alternative bike facilities being proposed.

With South Park missing data from one side of the street, I think it’s a pretty safe bet the actual total would be over 90,000, blowing all previous years out of the water.
Previous year counts for Sep: 2026: 81,756 2025: 79,747 2024: 71,557 2023: 60,775 2022: 37,086 2021: 36,469 2020: 8,689 2019: 5,253

Cycling Guide showed me the way and then helped me navigate the circuitous route. On the return trip we used the Shearwater Flyer trail and sidewalks along (un)Pleasant St #bikehfx
