Corporate profits and tax revenues grew together until the Trump tax cuts. Now corporate profits are at an all-time high while tax receipts are at their lowest since 2021.

What is happening right now? Is this happening? How did everything get so weird? Did I unwittingly ingest a hallucinogen? What's going on here?

Bill Clinton got House and Senate Democrats (zero Republicans) to pass a bill that cut the deficit by $500 billion through a mix of tax increases and spending cuts, setting the table for years of economic growth and a fiscal surplus. The party's reward was a crushing defeat in the 1994 midterms.

The White House normally gets $2.5 million a year for maintenance. Trump’s team has allocated $875 million.   That’s 350 years’ worth of the usual budget spent by a single administration.

The Republicans are not our “political opponents.” They’re criminals who are trying to steal the safety and happiness of everyone we love. It’s not “just politics.” We need to turn their party into dust.

Peter Thiel has promoted the Sovereign Individual, which says that the shift from “mass democracy” to “individual sovereignty” can happen “invisibly” (and without a shift in public opinion) via tax-free zones & free ports & that the power of nation states will eventually splinter into fragments. 1/

All of these cases are basically litmus tests for any Dem nominee. Are immigrants Americans? Do trans Americans deserve human rights? Are corporations superhumans who get to spend endlessly on elections to put whoever they want into power? These are simple questions with simple answers.

anyway i think the proper takeaway here is that a bare majority of the court thinks the plain words of the 14th amendment mean what they say, that four members believe there is a secret hidden meaning only recently discovered by hack lawyers

Musk is right that many problems can't be solved just by "throwing money" at them. But US aid to fight AIDS, child hunger & other global plagues has one of the highest ROIs in government. The data is clear: cutting this $ means millions will die. The question is how many.

Conservatives wanted Barack Obama impeached over the money he agreed to pay Iran (which was Iran’s money, frozen in U.S. banks), which was $1.7 billion. Trump is going to hand Iran 176 times that amount. trib.al/YEFHCNb

Can Vance & Co persuade Iran not to enrich above 3.67%, to surrender 98% of its enriched uranium stockpile, to allow weekly IAEA inspections, to keep the straits open without tolls, and to stick to that for at least a decade? In other words, the Obama deal.

This is absolutely false. Had GOP operatives like Roger Stone and John Roberts not interfered in the Florida recount Al Gore very likely would have been president and SCOTUS would be entirely different today. John Roberts is responsible for Citizens United.

You act like the Democratic Party is fundamentally different than the Repubs. It’s not. Both parties are owned by same oligarchs hellbent on keeping the US an autocracy with its people slaves to government: No education, no healthcare, no living wages, no human rights. Just billionaires on yachts

In case anyone forgot how incoherent this administration’s policies are… we just removed sanctions on a nation we’re actively at war with. Oh well, at least the cowards in the GOP will have to spend the weekend trying to explain how this won’t fund the war for Iran (it will).
