This is so, so, so, so important.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

It's my observation that a ton of people, even those who follow politics every day, simply do not understand how the government works.

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

The Last Fifteen Minutes is such a beautifully crafted film about finding bittersweet solace and comfort and love in the face of unmitigated disaster, told with Shing's characteristic whimsy and humor and heart, and if you have the chance to see it immediately, you absolutely should 😭❤️

If I were their dad I would look at this, feel a deep well of pride in how smart and talented my offspring is, hold it carefully, look at them lovingly and say 'see, I told you. All fish shaped."

HulloThere@jethroreading32.bsky.social

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

It sounds like hyperbole to suggest the current administration WANTS measles to become common again but I can’t think of much they’d be doing differently if they didn’t want that. (I think some of them really are eugenicists who legit prefer disease spread to prevention; others just don’t care)

David Ho@davidho.bsky.social

The CDC denied a request from California, Hawaiʻi, Oregon, and Washington to validate a high-volume measles test, citing “other priorities.” 🤨

this remains a great study of the estranged parents movement, and one of the almost universal features of these narratives is the missing missing reasons--the extreme caginess with which these parents present the events that led to the estrangement

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

The other category of coverage is *extremely* implausible first-person accounts from estranged parents. According to this woman, her son cut her off after she was mildly rude to his fiance's family a single time. There's no way this is the entire story. www.goodhousekeeping.com/relationship...

I'm just one data point but I've been sick exactly twice since 2020. Once was covid from someone I was staying with who didn't mask outside our lodgings. The other was a cold from visiting my nieces who don't mask at school. Pretty sure my pre-masking illness rate was higher than twice in 6 years.

As a comics writer I'm the first domino in a long row. If I miss my deadline, I'm handing crunch to my everyone else on my team. And that crunch compounds the deeper into the process we get, so my "oops I'm two days late" could turn into my letterer's "I only have three hours to get this done"

Jodie Troutman@longtalljodie.com

I've seen other people throw around career advice lately, so here's mine: hit your fucking deadlines. Editors don't just make them up for funsies. If you blow it once, you won't have the chance to blow it again.

this is really really fascinating. what's happened on ravelry is almost certainly reflected across every single other creator space online — your youtubes, your tiktoks, your instagrams. there's just not a lot of space left in the middle:

This is ostensibly a conversation about Ravelry & fiber arts influencers — but it's actually a conversation about the freelancification of creative work, the decline of institutions that made that work sustainable, and the hollowing out of the creative economy: www.patreon.com/CultureStudy...

ultimately if your reaction to someone saying "I think this is bad, I am ethically unhappy about it, I don't want to touch it" is to go "well it's useful so. it's everywhere. nothing to be done" I just kind of think you're an asshole
