In Demon King's Gardener, there's a board game called Ascension based on the way the first demon king of the United Demon Realm gained the Blessing of Ascension from the demon god of kings, Maenscul. It's a strategy game the MC plays with his bestie almost every day while they talk over their days.
Are there any sort of games in your book/wips setting? Are they physical sports? Board games? What do they mean to the setting and your characters? #WritingPrompt

Primordia by Wormwood Studios is 70% off in the Steam Autumn sale!
Life has ceased. Man is but a myth. And now, even the machines have begun to fail. Primordia is a fascinating journey through a crumbling world populated by robots.

I had so much fun playing Primordia, excited to look into more of these!
But if you want post-apocolyptic robot societies on the brink of collapse, Primordia might be the game for you!
So uh. Weird request.
Just realized today that I deleted all my old fanfics by accidentally overwriting a folder. It's been months, so there's really no way to recover them.
If anyone out there has any saved fanfics by sbdrag, I'd really appreciate if you could send them to me. 🥲
If we can only have art from people who "aren't in it for the money" that means we can only have art from privileged middle-class dilettantes. Making art being a viable career is responsible for nearly all worthwhile art, and if it's not a viable career any more we will get drastically less of it.
I swear to god none of the people involved here have actually played this game because if they did they’d be embarrassed that this is what they’re afraid of.
CITY OF STRIFE got a review on Tor Dot Com during Pride 2018, at which time it was conveniently on sale, and it skyrocketed my sales. It was also the month BAKER THIEF released, and I went from 1-5 sales per month to 1 per day for years.
FWIW: Mention books you like or you think others might like. You never know what'll happen:
I saw The Sad Bastard Cookbook here so I mentioned it on Masto (in a "in case you need this" sense). It kinda went viral (1K shares). It jumped to a high ranking on Amazon and then they got media attention.
I’m snarling and biting the bars of my cage! I love these SO much! I can’t wait until they get here! Look at these phenomenal Kieran hoofsies! Perfect for grabbing snacks and bugs.
Finished this very special pair of hand hooves for my bestie @toadally.bsky.social! I created the pattern myself and I'm really happy with the results!~

I think some of you forget that part of being sex positive and normalizing sex also includes normalizing not being into sex or being horny all the time
For graphic novels, especially adult genre fiction, it's incredibly helpful to review it online, talk about it, recommend it to a friend—adult fiction in the graphic novel space is difficult to place, and nothing convinces readers that they'll like a book more than the personal testimonial.
Thinking a lot about how when Schreier's exposé on R* working conditions came out, several mid-level devs I used to respect came out with very defensive "well *I've* never worked 90 hour weeks" as though it negated the fact that many contract and QA devs demonstrably were.
PMG understands Rockstar became aware of these messages after at least one non-union member of the server raised concerns about these discussions with management and this either kicked off, or contributed to, a wider investigation.
"Death of the Author" doesn't mean separating the author's bad behaviour from their art. It means taking away their authority and allowing readers to interpret the art based on their own perspectives. It doesn't absolve the author of being a bastard, in fact it may inform how you interpret the art.
Sort of a related tangent, I've noticed a thing that tends to happen with tropes conventions:
- Thing happens
- Thing keeps happening, becomes trope
- Trope is overused
- Media subverts trope
- Subversion becomes so popular it's difficult to find the trope played straight
there's like... two layers of any given concept
there's "what the thing is" and then there's "the surface stuff"
take a 'western,' right? some people will be like:
1) cowboy
2) this town is too small for you and i, so one of us will have to leave and/or die
3) bandits
4) gunfights
but does it?
And I kind of wonder how far down a rabbit hole one could go trying to trace trope origins where the subversion isn't obviously called out, and how things we think of as "necessary" for a genre today would have been seen as completely foreign in past versions of the same genre.
Also I highly recommend From Bereaucrat to Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated for some of the most fun meta commentary and trope subversions I have seen in one of these series.
Otaku family that allows for multiple generations of discussing tropes, and very loving!

Subversion of tropes as a means of social commentary isn't new - it happens in media all the time. But I'm fascinated by the way a subversion can also become a new trope, and how it illustrates the way media evolves and how genre staples aren't written in stone.
And how it can also get to the point where the only reason someone might know the original trope existed was because isekai includes meta-commentary - so the (actual) protagonist will have a stray thought of "oh, of course, it's the broken engagement scene, gotta have one of those"

And a lot of the subversions are paired with great social commentary on misogyny, patriarchal societies, and often how those ideas re-contextualization whether the villainess is actually a villainess or not. But sometimes, there isn't that kind of commentary.
At this point, when it comes to isekai stories into otome games, the subversion of the villainess being humiliated is the trope itself, rather than the public breaking off of the engagement.
This is true whether the protagonist is the villainess, heroine, or just a random mob.

As an example: there's a trope in Japanese historical otome games that the prince love interest publicly breaks off his engagement to the (usually duchess) villainess to marry the protagonist.
I came late to the game if these romances, so I have only ever seen this trope subverted.
As an author, I don't make a whole lot of money, but at the same time I need to read a lot of books to stay aware of trends and support my fellow authors. Obviously if I spend all my profits on other people's books, I'm not coming out ahead!
So: ways to read lots of indie books for cheap.
I will be the first to admit I couldn’t understand why anyone would oppose Assisted Dying… and then I became disabled and had it “offered” to me.
It’s not compassionate when there’s coercion.
It’s not dignified when it’s offered in lieu of care.
Listen to disabled people.
