Hey Mark 👋 Mark from Seattle here. I live a few blocks from where Jimothy was most recently spotted. LMK if you want a tour of his neighborhood!

At the end of the term I asked my college creative wriing students to submit anonymous thoughts on AI. No real surprises: Mood ranges from resignation to despair, capitulation from embittered erosion of standards to total, feelings of betrayal from deep to furious. 1/

Limnologist here It's a bit funny [looking] Freshwater algae are typically phosphorus limited but that switches to nitrogen limitation as P ⬆️ (usually from humans) & the N:P ⬇️ below 16:1 (Redfield ratio). Many cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) can fix their own N & thus bloom in these conditions

Ocean scientist here This isn’t funny Water only does this when it’s distressed

Hi, sorry to be a bother, but could fellow #SACNAS members point me to a resource or policy when an abstract review (for a presentation) may have been generated by AI? My friend is in esteemed graduate student in neuroscience but had their abstract flatly rejected, but the review makes no sense.

I re-made Glider some years back for MacOS/iOS. It broke at some point (perhaps an Apple change for Retina displays?) so I pulled it from the App Store. (Claude looked at the code—found some minor coordinate issues. Thanks!) Glider Classic for MacOS is back on. apps.apple.com/us/app/glide...

I submitted mine. Next drawing is on Monday, 4/13

If you ask a US govt employee who is currently furloughed, "How's your 'vacation'?" You might get a deadpan response like this: "Never better. I just finished writing the third book of my new fantasy trilogy, I've mastered Mandarin, and tomorrow I'm running off with the circus." #HaveSomeEmpathy

I wrote to one of the best government climate scientists I know, and jokingly asked if he's been fired. The fact that our best scientists, even if they haven't been fired, cannot focus on work due to mental strain, hurts us all.

This was a great opportunity, especially for my PhD student Angela Dillon, to share knowledge about #water and the #environment with judges in WA state, a highly engaged and curious group. 🌎 🧪
