Folks, I’m rebuilding my music email list. To entice you, subscribers get a free copy of my new song “The Muse (The Work Is The Wage).” Recorded in Seattle in Pearl Jam’s studio by Shawn Simmons (The Head And The Heart, Hey Marseilles). I hope you’ll check it out! scottandrew.music

Me, recovering from simultaneous flu and covid boosters.

My new EP "Backward Glance" will be available on Bandcamp Friday, November 6 as a digital download and limited-edition CD. Six of my best songs rebuilt from the ground up using the raw original tracks and given completely new sonic arrangements. scottandrew.bandcamp.com/album/backwa...

Last night I played my first open mic in almost 20 years, and I got to see people of all skill levels take a turn. There is something cool and special about watching someone admit to fear in front of a crowd, and that crowd rooting for them.

My go-to songwriting technique is to open my notebook to a clean, blank page and then stare at it for twenty minutes while eating an entire can of Pringles.

One thing I like doing when browsing in antiques shops is to open every ancient trunk, wardrobe, and jewelry box I find to let out as many ghosts as possible.

Getting really tedious balancing the whole “no ethical consumption under capitalism” thing with the “upending huge components of my digital life every time a CEO does a heel turn” thing.

Two big wins today. Well, the types of wins that require one to step up one’s game. Kind of excited to try. 🙃

Guys. Where are the posts reminding us not to speak ill of the dead? I'm not seeing them for some reason.

every billionaire & tech mogul, they all want to be adored & celebrated without doing the things Dolly did with a fraction of the power & money. What she had, she gave away. I'm sure she was comfortable (& that's good!). But she just relentlessly helped. It's not that difficult. Love. Care. Help. 💚🌸

And so it goes.

In the early 90s I once got mad at a friend who complained when we left him out of group lunches, movies, etc. We didn’t leave you out! We couldn’t reach you because you spent 10 hours a day on AOL!

Grateful to anyone out there with an Android device who can help me test this new audio player here: scottandrew.music

My spouse and I talk about his all the time. Who thought it was a good idea to put water *inside* the walls!?

Playing my first solo show tonight in maybe…12 years? Hope my voice (and lower back) are up to the challenge.

POV: you’re recording a song you wrote last month using mics that are at least ten years older than you and worth more than your house.

Hello again. Get ready!

I wrote a bit about coming back to songwriting, how it’s different this time, and sitting in a cool chair.

Yesterday I learned that there’s an actively-maintained Wordpress fork called ClassicPress that is everything I loved about WP, streamlined and without the block editor stuff. jQuery and other libs have been scrubbed in favor of web components and HTML5. 😘🤌 www.classicpress.net

It’s not the first day of summer until I post “First Day Of Summer,” the song I co-wrote with Jerin Falkner about the first day of summer! kintostars.bandcamp.com/track/first-...

I made a joke with Shawn the recording engineer today about replacing my voice with Waylon Jennings’ and realized this was likely totally possible with AI today. Yeeeeesh.

Scroll-driven animations that pause vertical scrolling to perform some weird parlor trick are bad. Like, how much longer do I have to scroll to get past your one-letter-at-a-time fade-in text effect? Who knows? You’re probably not the one with aggravated tendonitis!

Of all the people with PCs in my office, mine was the one they hooked up a modem to so the company could get email.

This is the third incident I’ve seen of students booing AI at graduation and the first where AI actually screwed up the ceremony. But this is still the future of work, somehow.

For reasons unknown to me, this pencil stub has written six complete new songs in the past month. I am not a superstitious person, but I fear what will happen when it’s finally sharpened down to nothing.

I love this, and it demonstrates how web components can straddle the line between old-school progressive enhancement and the encapsulation you’d expect from React. Plus it solves a real-world user-facing problem that is often overlooked or deprioritized, on sites built in 1998 or today.

Last weekend I managed to pull the original untreated tracks of “Gravel Road Requiem” (a song I recorded in 2002) off an ancient Windows 2000 hard drive. Today I remixed it in Logic, replacing the FruityLoops drums with a much more sophisticated drum track. It sounds SO GOOD you guys.
