I make software to interop. Working on a new web designed for writers and readers and in place of HTML we use Markdown. Keep it super simple. The big undo.

The thing about the economy is that it's kind of in a holding pattern, but what happens if Trump and his cabinet do something even more lunatic than starting a war with Iran. It's easy to imagine things getting much worse. That's what I worry about most.

One thing's for sure -- the web that was controlled by VCs has run out of things to make billions on. Now the question is do we want a web that works for writers and readers. Are we ready for the Big Undo??

Looks nice. Summary of blog post: "A Hacker News like service where the site doesn’t own anything. Every link, upvote, and comment lives in the user’s own account on the Bluesky network, not in her database." shelf.cafe

shelf.cafeshelf.cafeJust a place to share interesting blog posts and articles.

I sure did! It's an incredibly fast and light link aggregator, all data on protocol. It's got Bluesky post backlinks, upvotes, comments, all that good stuff. Let me know what features you'd like to see!

I made John Palfrey get a blog. :-) I know him from Berkman in the 00s where we made some great mischief together resulting in podcasting and other cool stuff. And as it was in the 00s, having a blog now is a place of power.

Prebunking Election Myths Ten days out from a consequential midterms, let's prebunk the myths and outright lies that are being and will be spread after the election....

Obama is doing the Old Obama campaign speech and it's something to see. He's got a few gray hairs, but he's still got the energy and chutzpah. I'd love to see him and Bernie Sanders on the same stage before this campaign is over.

Wow! Make Amy Acton governor. “I am making a promise to Ohioans...that no one in my state will ever, ever be invisible to me."

Lake Superior Academy is a beautiful school that had offered an incredible outdoor learning experience — that is until this Bitcoin mining farm moved in…

I like the web for people, sites that live and grow, like people. 100 years from now you should feel the people who lived there.

I’m an outliner coder, so I don’t use tabs neither, but if I had to choose between blanks and tabs I’d go with tabs. I’m an oldtimer and remember when a byte was worth a byte and I don’t abide by wasting one, never know when you might need one esp in dawg gone char limited bogus social networks.

it's actually always been time, the question is when are the users or the leaders among the users, see the sense in not being dependent on the people who are dragging us to the bottom.

I always read your blog and you know I made sure RSS was fully supported as I rebuilt. My license plate says WEBNERD for a reason and there are lots of us working on making the web excellent.

Enough already about the former press secretary. Can we have more focus on Ukraine please? Who turned off Starlink. It’s far more important and consequential.

Expect an avalanche of new software because the dam has broken, one person who knows what they want, and understands UI design can make a big complex app in 2-3 months. Over a weekend you can snap together an app from common UI concepts. Think of making software the same way you play with LEGOs.

the only thing that matters in the ecosystem are the millions of users they've attracted, but the limits of bluesky prevent anything from happening there. i'm watching it too. they have to decide what their business is and get on with it.

I want us to make our own network. In the meantime they’re all the same junk including this one. They raised $100 million and the best they could come up with is copying twitter 20 years ago, which hasn’t done anything but lock users in.
