Hi there! For those who don't know (and I'm sure that's a lot), this is the column I've been doing since 2015 where I look at older horror films from the drive-in era. I would love for you to have a read, and then check out the over 300 others while you're there. Thanks, and horror forever!
My book FUN CITY CINEMA: NEW YORK CITY AND THE MOVIES THAT MADE IT was published five years ago today. It's still the most challenging project of my career and the work I'm proudest of.
Give it a read! You might like it! buff.ly/d7YBTNa
Happy pub day to STRANDED ON EARTH: HOW NIGHT SKIES BECAME E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL! My new book is out today (also canonically the day E.T. actually arrived on Earth in the movie), so please pick up a copy if you have not already! Thank you @1984prods.bsky.social for making this happen!!!
I named a character in MAZYWOOD “Priscilla Stephens” after my 88-year-old aunt, a 1960s civil rights warrior in ailing health. She came to my book signing in Miami and was surprised to hear her name in my reading. 😍 I am still trying to raise money to help offset her bills.

I was thrilled to chat with @bjcolangelo.bsky.social for this special @fangoria.bsky.social piece all about how the Chainsaw Awards come together, what it takes to build a show that's a little "weird," and why it ultimately feels like one big horror summer camp. Give it a read!
For the past five years, Michael Varrati has written, directed, and produced the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards. Today, he explains how the hell he makes it happen.

Thanks to anyone who has read me over the years, from when I started at Daily Dead with my column Drive-In Dust Offs (back in action!) to my book A CUT BELOW. I started out later at this than some so thanks for letting me stumble with a bit of grace. I love to share my love of horror. Cheers!

This is my black-velvet painting of Chris Elliott with David Letterman. Chris is involved with my next audio comedy project, playing a successful surgeon who gives it all up to go back into showbiz.
It'll be out in 2027 from the great @thesonarnetwork.bsky.social
God how I love Chris Elliott.
I ain’t gonna front: last year @sandyjarrell.com and I released one of the coolest books EVER, an introduction to the DC Universe in narrative form influenced by tons of stuff that came before us, filtered through our own fevered brains, all in a kid-friendly package. We rule the wasteland.
As a somewhat trained physician, I can attest that horror is the best medicine for all ailments, whether they be emotional, mental, or physical. So I must insist in asking: have you horrored today? Do you plan on horroring later? It’s important to horror any chance you get. Up yer moderation.

MAN FINDS TAPE was phenomenal, great visuals, awesome acting, and a story that needs to be experienced blind.

Thank you @crobertcargill.bsky.social. Another one that's going on regular rotation.
Danielle Smith is a bigoted far-right MAGA-wannabe. She's coddling and enabling Alberta separatists who hate this country while claiming to oppose them out the other side of her face. A friend of hers is no friend of Canada.
So yeah, you picked a great way to start mending fencing. Fuck your wine.
My first stop was Alberta, the only province not boycotting Californian wines.
I spoke to provincial leaders about the importance of the Canadian market to California farmers and the importance of continuing close collaboration on dairy, beef and energy trade.
Oh hey I guess the announcement is out - MONSTERS, MAKEUP & EFFECTS: VOLUME 3 is being released in December & you can preorder here: darkinkbooks.com/store/p/pre-...
I’m pretty much on my own promoting this so I would really appreciate shares, etc. because I just want people to hear these stories.
Sony is considering releasing all 4 ‘BEATLES’ biopics on the same day in April 2028.
Another idea being considered is offering a 4-pack of tickets to encourage fans to buy tickets to all 4 films at once.
