Sergius was archbishop of Ravenna from 744 to 769, at the time when the Exarchate ceased to exist, The Venetians are mentioned twice in the entry for Sergius in the Liber pontificalis ecclesiae Ravennatis — the Book of the Pontiffs of Ravenna — written around 840 by a local cleric, Agnello.

It is reported that a fire broke out overnight in Balakovo, Saratov Region, Russia. Monitoring channels write that the target of the attack was the industrial zone of the "MZ Balakovo" metallurgical plant and the region's energy infrastructure.

And what will happen if we fall? How many people, I don’t know, maybe twenty million Ukrainians, will come to Europe? Because Putin will destroy our homes and force us out. For me, this is absolutely clear. That’s why we are standing strong, defending our country. Yes, with pain, with huge losses.

I've never met a single soldier who thinks that way. They are fighting because foreign invaders would otherwise occupy their homes, kidnap their children, steal their property, and kill them. That's why, Zelenskyy or no Zelenskyy, they would still defend their country.

This is Oleg Levushkin. He is Russian terrorist who was given the access to the civilized world. He planted bombs in Leipzig airport. This is exactly the reason why Russians should not be allowed in Europe.

Deusdedit was the fourth doge of Venice on the traditional list, ruling from 742 to 755 in the chronology established in the 1340s by Andrea Dandolo. Our sources for his life and reign are, however, just as scarce as for the previous doges and the "magistri militum".

After the first three doges of Venice, there was a kind of interregnum, which lasted five or six years. In this period, between 737 and 742, rather than having a duke chosen for life the Duchy was governed by officials called "magistri militum" which was a Byzantine military rank.

Just a reminder: If russia stops fighting, the war ends. If Ukraine stops fighting, we lose our homes. Our land is occupied. Our people are killed. Our children are taken. Our language, history and identity are erased. For russia, this is a war of choice. For us, it’s a fight to exist.

The intersection of the Venn diagram of "decent human beings" and "Italian politicians" just got noticeably smaller. Emma Bonino was one of very few. In fact, I can't think if anybody else. She'll be sorely miss by all decent people. #EmmaBonino

The Chronicon Altinate contains an apocryphal account of how duke Paulicius was killed in a factional fight between people from Equilo and Metamauco on one side, and the inhabitants of the Civitas Nova of Heraclia on the other.

Ursus Hypatos — or Orso Ipato in Italian — was the third doge on the traditional list of doges of Venice, but probably the first to be chosen by the Venetians. The nominally first, Paulicius, most likely never existed, and the second, Marcellus, was probably a Byzantine appointee.

All of Ukraine is as tired as Matviichuk looks here. They deserve much much better.

Oleksandra Matviichuk: All this hell that we now face in Ukraine is a result of total impunity that Russia enjoyed for decades. Russian troops committed horrible crimes in Chechnya, Georgia, Mali, Libya, Syria, and so on. They've never been punished.

What do ‘Miranda’, ‘legend’, and ‘agenda’ have in common? They come from Latin gerundives: verbal forms that express obligation. For instance, Latin ‘mīranda’ means “she who is to be admired”. Zoom in on my new graphic to learn more about the gerundive and discover other gerundives in English:
