Talked with a few folks inside of AI labs (OpenAI, Anthropic) about what they think of the future of software engineering. The “closer” to shipping production code engineers are, the less they believe software engineering will be “solved” fully by AI. The opposite true as well

One interesting outcome of AI agents being so fast at prototyping: It can take longer to have a meeting about building a prototype than to build it! So... why not just build it, then show it and talk about it?

Prototypes are the most powerfully tool I know of for increasing the productivity of conversations about what software should do and how it should work They're tools for thinking

We think Java would 100% be Ross Geller from Friends. He’s reliable, if a bit verbose, and he’s been around forever. He may not be the flashiest in the room, but he's solid, knows his stuff, and has a lot of history.

Starting in February I'm going to start a (free) new live coding series where I build a handful of these apps with a recent college graduate that works with me. I think it will be a great tutorial for people who want to learn aspects of engineering you don't get in school. #staytuned

While we’re banning books… Finland is teaching children in school how to recognize fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility. Some of this will seem very familiar. Be. Like. Finland.

Visiting #Italy 🇮🇹 for the first time makes me realise how safe #Singapore is. Even though I was mentally prepared for it and my guard was on all the time, but my recent visit to Firenze still managed to disappoint me.

It’s high time that organisations start to adopt OTel for their observability needs for various reasons like : - Avoid vendor lock-in - Easy integration - Great Open Source support (top CNCF project) - Huge list of libraries, services, frameworks supporting OTel standard out of the box

AI might not be there but we all can agree that multiple tools built on top of GenAI has increased our productivity, at the very least for most of the Software professionals. One thing that comes hand-in-hand with that is expectation of more value produced with less.

I could see another wave of layoffs round the corner for the tech industry and most other industries will follow. Another obviously followup observation I am noticing is that the demand for management roles is on decline.

For leaner team, full stack engineers are preferred over backend/frontend engineers. Staff/Lead Engineers are preferred over Engineering Managers. #rant #ai

Great stuff @bsky.app team 💯 @pfrazee.com It would be great learning about the notable technical challenges and how did your team overcome those. May be a tech blog?

Been getting so many supportive messages throughout the day from everybody. We have a lot of work to do, but you all make this worth it. Thank you!

This is so interesting 💯

Just when I thought I've seen it all, a PostgreSQL extension shows up that allows you to embed a SQLite database inside a table. github.com/frectonz/pgl...
