I'm Uncle Sam, That's who I am. Been hidin' out, in a rock n' roll band. Mainer, mariner, skier, data man, deadhead, etc.

There's a Fox "free preview" stream of the world series without commentators and I find this a weirdly pleasant way to watch baseball

Interestingly, neither Pingree or Charles seem to be advertising on streaming services. The only ME-Gov ad I've seen is variants on an IE attack ad on Charles' abortion stance

I don't normally get a lot of spam texts, but once a year or so I get an absolute barrage targeted at either a Bruce (boomer they are trying to lure into crypto scams) or Adam, who appears to be a young homeowner targeted for tree service ads (scams?)

I'd really like to know where this data comes from, and why it goes in waves like this. I've been getting spam for Bruce for years, he is a real person, I know his address lol, it's at least in the right area code. But Adam is a new one.

We're doing all our absentee processing on election day so I expect I'll be at the polling place reconciling the books with the machine count until about 11, by which point all the bars will be closed

Now I'm thinking I might need to ask Mitch if he can keep his spot open late cause we're gonna need one either way. (If It Happens, Mitch will definitely be open and basically throwing drinks at you)

I shook his hand at a rally in 2012 but I don't really count that, otherwise my number is 1.

Sky Marchini@sky.skymarchini.net

To flip some discourse script for a bit: what’s y’all’s Obama number (ie degrees of separation with the former president)? Mine is 3

I've been polled twice today by GOP-affiliated firms. Get ready for the zone to be flooded with low quality Maine polls

Four mile run in the books, nothing else to do today, might as well wander downtown, maybe go to the bookstore, maybe have a beer

The problem is finding a mayor who will a) do this and b) not provoke a police strike

Ari Ofsevit@ofsevit.bsky.social

Really we need one mayor to order the local police to arrest these thugs on sight, and throw them in the slammer and find a judge that moves real slow.

This is ridiculous conspiratorial nonsense. Mills ran a bad, lazy campaign. She is not well-liked by the primary electorate and didn't try very hard. End of story.

Henry @henrythedog.bsky.social

its becoming more and more clear that Platner was entirely a conspiracy, I mean we knew a bunch of DC consultants picked their former coke dealer to make a glossy video for but after Wedgewood it seems likely they used to fake polls to pull in donors and choke out Mills' fundraising

Fox News is on at the Mexican place for reasons unclear, but the people on The Five other than the token lib are freaked the fuck out and scrambling for copium

There were 27 miles of rope used for rigging in Master & Commander. Modern rope naturally coils in the opposite direction of rope made during the Napoleonic wars. So the production paid a shop to make period accurate cordage.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

The thing to understand about James Carville is that nearly 40 years ago he served as water boy for a star quarterback. Based on that job and that job only he has spent decades insisting he knows how to win Super Bowls. At best he knows how to fetch Bill Clinton’s water.

beyond not understanding that you retain a benefit — growing equity — that justifies continued taxation, what is happening is that these people don’t understand that their mortgage payment included a property tax payment that went into escrow. that, and simple selfishness, is what’s happening here.

You should pay property taxes but only when you have a mortgage is a bizarre belief

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Dragged a friend out trail running today, reminded me how much fun it is to run with people, and him that running on trails is a lot harder (and more fun) than the treadmill

I was the Campaign Manager for a congressional campaign for like 2.5 weeks before it became clear the guy was a joke so I quit. He later was convicted of campaign finance fraud

Thats why "a couple" is the perfect number of beers. You have a couple, and then a couple more, but it's still just a couple of beers

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

four or more beers is a lot of beers. one to two beers is a small amount of beers. three beers is a grey area.

I am literally actually screaming in my apartment. I have seen state legislative campaigns with better quarters than this

I'll just add, on the right, asking for more of your country is seen as "lacking gratitude" and it's not just directed at brown people or immigrants.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

1) vance has this weird preoccupation with demanding that people show him gratitude 2) this is just another expression of the idea that some americans don’t count and at most should be seen and not heard

Susan Collins is trying to drop the Bill Greene bomb again this year, but the ad is way weaksauce compared to six years ago

I'm rooting for the White Sox because they usually suck and because "Guardians" is a stupid fucking name, the woke pope being a fan is a plus too, anyone got counterarguments?

Not just one year, it was "while she was running for Governor in 1994"

Amy Fried@asfried.bsky.social

Collins said she had ONE YEAR without health insurance! One year! And then goes through policies she's worked on. Jackson: I support M4A so people can get health care. It's horrible if someone has chest pain but won't go to the hospital bc they don't have health care. Can afford. #mepolitics

Standing in line to buy new pants cause apparently I'm a 34 now. I was still breaking in a pair of size 40 Carhartts I bought less than a year ago.

Anthropic only having $4.6 billion in revenue was a reality check for me of how tiny these businesses still are despite trillion dollar valuations. Paramount Plus, for comparison, had $7.5 billion revenue for 2025

I was blocked by a moot for this lol

Siebznet@siebzy.bsky.social

No the Federalist Society is mostly about connecting wannabe authoritarian goons with the people who will pay them handsomely to be authoritarian goons. Any suggestion that they have a coherent legal ideology other than that is farcical

I saw HK denialism first as an obvious joke in a bumble profile, and then a few months later as obviously not a joke based on all the other stupid shit in the profile

Sen. Pumpkin Gogurt@ugarles.bsky.social

i feel strongly that it started as a bit but because the bit is such good engagement bait it picked up genuine psychotic adherents

Maine's DOC commissioner is retiring, which means the state will no longer have a head jailor ironically named "Randy Liberty"

Andy Beshear is running for president and he's a lot better at it than Seth Moulton or Gavin Newsom.

VoteHub@votehub.com

NEWS — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear criticizes fellow Democrats who say transgender athletes should be barred from women’s sports. “That is not the party that we are. We start as a party of compassion and empathy.”
