“Not only does it contain enough elements to bring the Adwaith fans with her, but it also forges new ground for Anthony both sonically and emotionally” My review of the debut GWEN album is now live over at Joyzine joyzine.org/2026/10/27/a... @joyzineuk.bsky.social

joyzine.orgALBUM REVIEW: GWEN – UMA - JoyzineGWEN's new album 'UMA' is chock full of the melodic hooks and memorable melodies that made Adwaith’s music so popular, yet this pushes her music into a far more experimental setting.

Last One Laughing Halloween special. Firstly, I wouldn’t last 20 minutes with Jack Dee, Reece Shearsmith and Lou Sanders. Secondly, the introduction of Pemberton as Pauline would destroy me. A truly brilliant comic creation from my favourite comedy

I've been a bit quiet here lately and that's cos things have been busy! We're in the middle of more gigs at the Moth Club, and then TOMORROW is the premiere of our new single, Young and Dumb, which you can hear on 6 Music some time after 11am. Join me in gathering round your wind-up radios 😍

"a film that digs deeply into humanity, and constantly questions the priorities of parenthood against selfishness and hedonism" Colin Lomas was able to see an early London Film Festival preview of actor/director Jordan Firstman's debut feature 'Club Kid'. In cinemas January 2027, released thru A24.

I completely failed to mention, in addition to Robin Boardman's fantabulous review, @louderthanwar.bsky.social kindly afforded me the opportunity to discuss my #newalbum track by track. So consider it mentioned! It's all here: louderthanwar.com/blokeacola-b...

louderthanwar.comBlokeacola: Boastcard - Album ReviewMusical subtlety and lyrical intelligence underlie each of these perfectly formed tracks. Robin Boardman listens to Boastcard for LTW.

Listening to a report about Google chopping down a quarter of a million trees in Finland to build a data centre while washing out yoghurt pots for the recycling

Hard to argue against Harry Kane winning the Ballon d’Or. Not flashy just brilliantly consistent and the fact he’s been able to drop back to allow others to flourish (especially in the WC) and STILL score many goals is a sign of his footballing intelligence. Well deserved

Watched Shaun of the Dead with George and I’m pleased to say he loved it. The jokes made him laugh and the horror made him squirm just it should.

Finally managed to listen to the new Fontaines album. Whilst I will always love their debut the most, it’s great to see them be so consistently good. What’s also nice to see is a big mainstream guitar band that can be played on R1, R2, 6 music and beyond. Balancing that mainstream appeal with 1/2

A desire to constantly innovate themselves is a hard thing to do. Arctic Monkeys last to do it? It’s nice to have a big mainstream guitar band doing it well and long may they continue

Finished McGovern’s latest series of Time and we’ll now I’m a wreck. So well performed by every member of the cast, the last episode is brutal yet optimistic. I will watch everything that man creates

Lighthouse Family reuniting is confirmation that the apocalypse is upon us. I never knew one of them was named Paul Tucker. My dad will be furious when he finds out 🤣

I haven’t had a proper listen yet so can’t make an opinion on it but what I can say is that the new Fontaines album definitely continues their trend of having a really strong opening song

Caught the new Oasis doc Don’t Look Back and whilst there’s lots to be said about it (good and bad)for me the true heart of it is the footage of Live Forever after Mani has died. It’s a really beautiful and moving moment

Public service announcement: there’s a new series starting on BBC1 on the 25th Oct where THE Bill Murray is travelling around Ireland playing golf. This and the return of Gone Fishing is pure balm for the middle aged man 😁

💯 this 👇. The same applies to Paranormal Activity. I saw an early screening in the cinema before any reviews or details had leaked and every time it went to night it got more obviously tense in the cinema. My wife (who hates horror films) was really not well after it 🤣

The hype meant a lot of people felt the need to dismiss it like “I saw through the hype”. Well, duh. It’s fucking unsettling the first time you see it and the less you’ve heard the better. I genuinely dreaded the sun going down each night (in the film).

I retain the opinion, even in the face of MANY who disagree, that this is one of the greatest horror films ever made which completely depends on the imagination of the viewer on how much it shocks / bores you

Folk 'n' Hell@folknhell.bsky.social

The latest FolknHell podcast looks at The Blair Witch Project: great reputation, rather more modest film underneath. Three convincing performances, a lot of Maryland woodland, and a few images that still unsettle. Is it #folkhorror ? We say not really. folknhell.s.gy/bw

I say this as someone for whom Carrie is their favourite Stephen King book and who thinks that De Palma’s film is the best King adaptation made, I LOVED the new take on the story by Mike Flanagan. fleshing out the “villains” so they were more 3 dimensional was smart. The whole cast are great #carrie

This ticket for tonight is still available. Will sell for proof of a minimum £20 donation to @msf.ca

Sadly, due to events this afternoon I am no longer able to attend the Cabaret Voltaire gig in Cardiff on Wednesday night. Ticket cost £40 but I’m happy to pass it on to someone for £30. If interested then please let me know

Sadly Post Script is proof that the oft misquoted “nan on bongos” line is a falsehood. It’s good hearing MES again and I loved the last album but this one is just lifeless and proof that The Fall were more than just one man

Sweet moment as George comes home from being out with mates and excitedly goes to listen to the new Chase and Status album. Regardless of genre, it is always so life affirming seeing young people still excited about albums being released ❤️✊

Went to see New Dawn Fades last night. Thought it was superb. Very funny and moving. It was lovely hearing the poetry of Ian’s words presented as spoken word and not just sung. The whole cast were superb and hearing that music on those speakers was very special
