Ok folks, now more than ever, we need to Be Kind and do Good Science. This means digging in, producing the evidence, communicating clearly and sincerely, celebrating our collective curiosity, and being mindful of the spaces we are and can be in.

Fingerprint is here! Great long thread about our new Nature paper that dropped today (but has been multiple years of enormous team effort).

What's behind this tidal wave of epidemics? In the largest study ever conducted on emerging infectious diseases, we show that the popular explanation - "our relationship with nature is out of balance" - doesn't hold up. Out now in Nature, after half a decade of work: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Yet another measles death here in PA. That's two in 4 or 5 days, and this one was an 18 year-old. And of course, unvaccinated. There is no limit to my contempt toward those who continue to undermine vaccine confidence in the face of these avoidable tragedies. www.inquirer.com/health/fourt...

Over the weekend, a storm in the Baltic states caused significant disruption to power supplies and at least 2 deaths. An experimental reanalysis-based attribution approach suggests that ~20% more rain fell than if the same weather pattern had occurred in a world that was 1°C cooler.

This is REALLY important. “Over 50% of Americans say climate change is a serious threat; only 10% think their compatriots feel the same That perception gap on the issue is among the highest in the world, per a new Gallup poll.” They want you to think you’re alone. You’re not. #ClimateCrisis

This is a remarkably extreme statistic. Bordeaux, France has recorded more days >40°C in 2026 than in the entire 105 year period combined dating back to 1920 when records began. This summer has been so far above extreme it’s difficult to put into words. Chart: @WxNB_

Probably not - unless we radically reimagine our relationship with nature, food, and each other. First preprint led by the brilliant @torrelavelle.bsky.social: www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6...

So, @cataranea.bsky.social and I went to Guyana over the past week (ish) to attend #BugShot, in the Rupununi Savannah, at Karanambu Lodge. You wanna see some pictures of what we saw?

This is a very real aspect of the (dumb) structure of US health coverage. It creates terrible work environments, stifles creative moves, and "job lock" is a great term, but doesn't really capture the horror.

NPR@npr.org

About 24% of U.S. employees stay in unwanted jobs just for health insurance, a report out Wednesday finds. Up significantly since 2021, the uptick in "job lock" is a concerning sign for the U.S. economy. n.pr/4gQIY5E

I'd be great at it. I have no siblings. Actually, I'd suck at it, let's be honest, I would get bored after two weeks of no job, and would probably go back to doing what I do.

Bethany Albertson@albertsonb2.bsky.social

Thought experiment- if you were suddenly appointed to do your sibling’s job, how badly would you suck at it?
