Saw You Can See Everything (cried though most of it, bawled after) and The Devils (beautiful, exhausting) within three days of each other. They make a beautiful contrast.

Write book without using AI. Run manuscript through Pangram to make sure you can’t be accused of using AI. Pangram identifies some characteristics of AI writing. Change these in manuscript. You now have a book part-written by AI.

Genuinely saddened to hear this. I will never forget stumbling across "You're not supposed to be here" in the Build editor in the late 90s... exploring his work in Duke3D and figuring out how he made things look and play so well inspired the heck outta me.

Richard B. Gray - LEVELORD 11/15/1957 - 10/12/2026 Just heard the news that an old friend of mine has passed on. Richard Gray - aka Levelord has departed the planet. I know he's dealt with cancer on and off for awhile now, a word that I cannot stand. Word comes from his wife Olga.

this works for most of life

i gotta remember if you start from granular emotional moments and build outward it works a lot better than trying to intellectualize the big picture in every way first. i think this is basically always how it works for me and i have totally failed to internalize this lesson. lol

If anybody reading this is a working scientist who would be interested to learn about and co-develop a public philosophy of science course for scientists, dm me, thanks! Shares appreciated!

if the AI shit is driving you nuts and you're sick of hearing about it, you aren't required to know how it works. but you should at least try not to spread misinformation about it that's going to leave people who think you know what you're talking about ill-equipped to deal with it

A now-retired Phil twitter legend once said to me ‘arguments are just to give people an excuse to agree with your view. The thing that actually *motivates* them to agree is showing them how things look nice from your view’

Had cause to think back to an old blog post I wrote bitterly cos I lost an argument with my colleagues during a hiring meeting. Arguments in philosophy are overrated! sootyempiric.blogspot.com/2023/09/argu...

From what I understand: Instead of YOU having to prove that a tech company DIDN'T follow GDPR obligations, The tech companies now instead have to prove they actually DID follow GDPR. Burden of proof is on them. They cant just blanket deny everything. Huge if true! Nice one @iccl.bsky.social

Dr Abeba Birhane@abeba.blacksky.app

Huge congratulations to our colleagues at @iccl.bsky.social on this win! In a landmark ruling on 25 Sep, the ICCL secured a precedent that will reshape how Big Tech companies defend themselves in GDPR class actions that impact their operations across the entire EU enforce.ie/digital-data...

LLMs have real and meaningful weaknesses and dangers associated with their use, which is part of why it's so galling that the loudest anti-LLM voices have less than zero interest in understanding what LLMs are good at and what they are bad at so they can make their case coherently.

hikikomorphism@hikikomorphism.bsky.social

In my experience LLMs are almost spooky good at understanding private dialects/baroque references/etc - you'd need to put them in some kind of "ask questions and learn" mode to start, but once they write a memory block or two about your ideal shopping outcomes, they'd be pretty good at this
