Small Press Day

1/ 🧵 It’s almost Small Press Day! 🎉 Here are some of the brilliant events happening this Saturday, 25 July, across the UK, Ireland and beyond. Whether you’re into comics, zines, workshops or creator signings, there’s something to discover👇

Important work coming in 2027.

Please don't do this. We don't have enough time to consider all the legitimate requests we get for review from actual artists without wasting valuable time looking at your godawful slop.

And our round 3 Gosh/BF Drink and Draw theme is inspired by this 1980s issue of Marvel's ALF. You have 30 minutes to design your own spooky Pumpkin head! #GoshBFDD

And for round 2 of tonight's Gosh and BF Drink and Draw Online your Halloween theme comes from the Bronze Age of Marvel Comics. You have 30 minutes to draw on the theme of 'Chamber of Darkness'. #GoshBFDD

For the first round of tonight's Halloween Gosh and Broken Frontier Drink and Draw Online your first round prompt is 'Scream!' (pretty sure we used this before for Halloween but it's a great theme!). And a reminder that the new SCREAM! Halloween Special is out this month. #GoshBFDD

You have half an hour to draw on each theme and we'll announce a winner at the end of each round. Please note winners will be announced tonight from this account so make sure you're following BF! Don't forget to use the hashtag #GoshBFDD

Welcome to tonight's Gosh! Comics & Broken Frontier Drink and Draw Online HALLOWEEN SPECIAL here on Bluesky. If you're new to D&D we have 3 themed drawing rounds at 7.30, 8.15 & 9.00. PLEASE repost if you can so we reach as many people as possible! Thank you so much. :-) #GoshBFDD

Hey, #smallpresscomics pals! This is tonight here on Bluesky... #GoshBFDD

EXCELLENT NEWS ALERT! Broken Frontier ‘Six to Watch’ Artist Beatrijs Brouwer/Beastly Worlds to Be Published by Fantagraphics and Ediciones La Cúpula in 2027. @beastlyworlds.bsky.social #BF6toWatch Once again... we did tell you... www.brokenfrontier.com/beastly-worl...

Hey, #smallpresscomics pals! Take note.

What I WILL say is: fuck AI.

Made a post out of this for clarity. Do get in touch! This could be a lot of fun.

If there's a term related to comics fairs/festivals/cons that we really need to retire it's "pity buys". Let's think of them as "empathy buys" instead. You're facilitating someone getting the story they wanted out into the world and reaching one more reader. There's nothing disparaging about that!

Hi y'all, Recently we found out that my brother has a heart condition and will require extensive care. To cover some of the costs I'm running fundraiser by taking up commissions. Most tiers are affordable so people get some good art while helping us out. Plus a $1000 for those who can spare more.💜💜

This happens every year and I did mention it in the post below but forgot to in the Thought Bubble mail-out. So... if you're debuting say volume 2 of your series in Harrogate make sure to send us volume 1 as well if you're looking for a review. We can't cover part of a story in isolation. Thanks!

It's inQ! this weekend #smallpresscomics pals and this is a truly awesome line-up.

And here's your round 3 theme based on our review of 'Penelope’s Escape from the Platypusary'. You have 30 mins to draw on the theme of 'Duck-Billed Platypus'. (Time for the reference photos!) #GoshBFDD

While we decide the round 1 winner for tonight's Gosh/BF Drink and Draw Online here's your theme for round 2. You have 30 minutes to draw on the theme of 'Who Wants Donuts?' (or doughnuts). Based on our review of Mark Alan Stamaty’s book this week. #GoshBFDD

JUST WORK by Tom Humberstone is the inspiration for round 1 of tonight's Gosh and BF Drink and Draw online. You have 30 minutes to draw on the theme of 'Workers Rights'. Interpret that however you want! #GoshBFDD

People who use Ai are the slimiest of people. It makes my gut wretch that people can be so short sighted as to use it to side-step hiring actual people OR actually up skilling yourself. Imagining paying people for their labour! Imagine learning! Imagining critical thinking!

Are you ready for a very long thread about @brokenfrontier.bsky.social? Because I'm going to be real for a moment before the tidal wave of Thought Bubble coverage requests hits us.

The guests that we approach to be reviewers are so enthusiastically happy to give their time and expertise, it’s very heartening. Thank you Alison, and all involved. Come get your portfolio reviewed!

Once upon a time the small press shelves would be full of comics anthologies providing a platform for exciting emerging creators. Now they’re a rarity. And they are *so* important. BOXES has been consistently excellent and the latest issue needs your support. Let’s do this!

Your semi-regular reminder that advertising is free on BF for trans comics creators. E-mail our Andy here for more details: www.brokenfrontier.com/contact-us/

Hey, #smallpresscomics people at Thought Bubble this year! An important read...

Thought Bubble exhibitors... Our coverage offer for this year's event is now in your inboxes. The requests are already coming in and we're two and a half months from the big weekend! We'll put something up on BF soon too. Exciting times. #thoughtbubble

I'll be at this the weekend after the coming one. As this is very much an event full of emerging small press/self-published creators I'll be more than happy to look at people's work while I'm there and have a chat. There's a BF Six to Watch table but if you see me just grab me.

News! London’s Queer Comic Fair inQ! @inqcomicfair.bsky.social Returns on September 26th-27th – Exhibitors Include Rein Lee, Dominique Duong, Abs Bailey, Shazleen Khan, Alex Taylor and Many More. www.brokenfrontier.com/inq-2026/

SCAM ALERT: Do not order from www.fantagraphics-us.com, it is not a legitimate website! They have cloned our real website and are stealing people’s credit card information. If you want to order directly from us, please do so at www.fantagraphics.com.

We've always had good months and bad months, but this is the furthest we've been from paying our basic rent and bills. Anything you can spare right now would really help us with some breathing space while we try and turn things around. gofund.me/4e08a72e4
