It's been an interesting year! Bigger miniatures, army painting, putting the Quickshade Dip back into the rotation, along with lots... and *lots* of chipping and weathering on different miniatures.
As ever, see to yourselves first! But anything spare helps feed this stuff! ko-fi.com/sonicsledgeh...
Continuing a tradition since 2021, here's some of my favourites from the line-up for How I Paint Things this year.
If by bizarre chance at Christmas you're short on ways to spend the cash in your pockets, don't mind me rattling the tip jar: ko-fi.com/sonicsledgeh...
Painting my UNSC Marine Medic for Halo Flashpoint and, uh... wow, this dude's carrying enough hardware he'd make Wyatt Earp look underdressed. He's got a pistol in his hands, one strapped to his chest rig, and one on his thigh.
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
Plugging away at my #HaloFastGrow Fireteam! The difference between bare Speedpaint and then a glaze or two and a sharp highlight on these figures is nuts. Based tomorrow and that's the Spartans for my team done... on to the mere mortals that'll be in support! :D
Been away playing in a Kings of War tournament with my Xirkaali, went 1/0/4, had a whale of a time like always and picked up a nice surprise! First time ever winning something like that, especially given the competition!

It is an absolute failure of the platform that now, almost every third thumbnail is some pile of AI generated excrement. 'Don't recommend channel' doesn't do anything - it's not the channel I dislike. 'Not interested' doesn't tell the algorithm the right lesson, either.
YouTube needs a NoAI button.
When uploading a video, I can tell YouTube either that it is promotional material, or if it uses AI to simulate real persons or events. That's it. There's no onus whatsoever to disclose 'this is a statistically likely turd' or way to then avoid those same floaters across the platform.
Small channels - actual human creators - are already forced to swim against the sheer tide of uploads on YouTube, for good or ill. Now they're content to let people dump raw shit into the mix and choke out what little chance newcomers have against the deluge.
Bouncing my forehead off the desk. Everything I have put my hand to so far today has gone absolutely tits-up. I'm out of carry on juice, and my keep calm biscuits are too hard to eat without it.
All the new miniatures in our Heroes of the Dutch Resistance Kickstarter - look at them there. Each figure is based on a real person who risked it all to fight fascism. Please help me spread the word.

Trying to follow @mengelminis.bsky.social cracking tutorial as closely as possible - would that I had his nerve and control! The Trench Crusade Prussians are absolutely grand wee miniatures, though, and a ton of fun to paint besides.

You asked AI for the cheapest flight. It dug through your emails, decided you could afford more, and suggested a ticket costing $100โ$200 extra.

It took me years before I had a channel logo on YouTube at all, and now - many years later again - I have at last a mascot! Some say he primes by the light of the full moon, and that he drybrushes with his own tail. All we know is... he's called the Lycansubscribe.

I know it's immeasurably fashionable to go the philosophical route with the answer here, but honestly, y'all could do with some levity and yeah, little plastic mans got WAY good in the last twenty years.
I've never in all me life been fashionable, and by god if I should be startin' now, I want fer ye to DART ME, RIGHT IN THE RING PIECE. Straight up an' DART ME ASS.
My roof is leaking and will likely cost a small fortune to fix. In other news From the Depths below is out on drivethrurpg if you want to help out fix my roof and get some pirates in your life at the same time. www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/5...

Hobby life goal achieved!
Every miniature I own. All assembled and painted. All 1036.
No backlog. No more minis to paint. All done.
Until I get more. Whenever that may be.

What's baffling to me is that A.) he actually managed to nail my favourite loud-ass shirt, and B.) ...I can actually see the likeness. I'm gonna drop this monster on the channel from Halloween! Now to find the perfect miniature to kick off with, too. ๐
I consider myself a rational man, but I can't sleep with the bedroom door open behind me because then I won't hear the aliens coming in. While I'm asleep.
I annoy the hell out of myself. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool skeptic/rationalist in my 50s, but I only have to watch one documentary about the supernatural, and at 4am the following morning, I delay going to the bathroom for as long as I can because of all the dark entities that are surely lying in wait.
I was honoured to be asked by Osprey Games, in addition to the cover, to make some interior art from Oathmark Second edition by Joseph McCullough. Classic stuff for me.
Here's a selection.
Well, now it's official.
Did they... remember Cubicle 7 at the very last second or something? I feel for the team that must have done the hard yards on a system, artwork, layout, all to be nuked.
GW will, of course, say or admit to nothing, so... rampant speculation ahoy! That's just an incredible amount of work to get taken out back and given the Old Yeller treatment.

Thomas Horvath, from the USNC Marines box. I wasn't sure about taking a legendary hero in my #HaloFastGrow Fireteam, but having one dude in funky camo definitely stands out... and will hopefully draw an opponent's eye!
Grabbing my hair and rocking back and forth in my chair as I realise that finally, at last, I will not be able to sidestep painting digital camo and I need to give it the ol' college wallop.
Guess who couldn't sleep! Took advantage of being awake at Dumb in the morning to do a little more work here. I wish I had Tyler's smooth hand with highlights, but we're getting there! Just a little weathering, unit markings, and his base to go.
I'd hoped to get this guy finished today, since tomorrow will be the kick off for the Halo Fast Grow and I do NOT wanna miss that deadline, but following the AP guide by Tyler for this Trench Crusade Prussian has been pretty fun!
Looking to get in to Baronโs War?
Weโve got ready made retinues for you to get straight in to the action!

The photo makes him WAY lighter than he actually is, boo. The question is whether or not I'll be brave enough to attempt the freehand markings on his helmet and pauldrons. (I must!)
