This article offers half a dozen reasons why people have stopped having friends and family over, but it ignores the fact that the women who planned parties and kept homes tidy enough for unplanned guests are now working for pay full-time (usually more than 9-5). www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

"ADHD label risks lifelong harm to children." If you don't label the disorder, then what we will be labelled instead is "Lazy." "Underachiever." "Doesn't live up to their potential." "Bad student." Those labels come with pain, shame, and abuse. The ADHD label comes with a chance for support.

1. The independent Taskforce — commissioned by NHS England, backed by government — concluded ADHD is under-diagnosed, under-recognised and under-treated in the UK. Not over. The press has reported the reverse of the finding www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...

Diprotodon, the proto-wombat, was the size of an SUV. They lived alongside anatomically modern humans in Australia for about 10,000 years until going extinct about 25-40,000 years ago. If they had proportionally sized cubic poop, it would be the size of a cinderblock, I think?

In my mind, I picture wombats as badger or possum sized, but they're ... um ... not.

things that make me slightly hopeful there's a class action lawsuit against hotel chains about their "signature scents" blasting everywhere violate the ADA by making hotels inaccessible to sensitive individuals (It me. I'm sensitive individual) #MCAS #Migraines #NEISvoid

This video of a Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) was taken by Sondre Eriksen Hensema (@itseriksen on IG). There are 4 species in genus Lynx & what's striking is that 2 of them are in North America, 2 in Eurasia... but the lynx line originates in Africa. Let's learn more about these right-sized kitties.

I wanted to be a unicorn I was told this was not possible so I decided I'd settle for being a regular horse instead unfortunately that didn't work out for me either pretty much all I got out of it was my name I do also still love those massive shredded wheat biscuits though

This is Nigel the Eastern Screech-Owl at the Avian Behavior Conservancy in Escondido, CA. Screech-owls have fairly complex vocalizations & Nigel has specific mews & trills he uses with humans to direct them to give him mealworms. It's =highly effective=. Meaning: He's domesticated his humans.

my mobility scooter ran out of power on the way back from the grocery store, and I can't find the charger I actually haven't seen it since the move, which is, uh, not good if some of y'all can send me a few bucks towards a new one (spare\travel if I ever find the old one) I'd really appreciate it

Elysia crispata are also called "lettuce sea slugs". They utilize 'kleptoplasty', stealing chloroplasts from macroalgae. But the name 'crispata' means "frilled", referring to how it looks like a 1970's tuxedo shirt. Here the fun bit: it's an animal that evolved LEAVES. Let's talk about it!

How I became a #MutualAid snack stop for kids: In late 2022, I was COVID-conscious (just like now) and put out snacks for Xmas for all of the delivery people. I noticed they were taking a LOT of stuff but I shut it down in January 2023. But in 2023, "somebody" started sneaking around....

Duckweed flowers (red arrows) are among the smallest in the world & generally can only be seen under a microscope. In Wolffia species, they are at most a few hundred cells, contain 1 male stamen, 1 female pistil. Pollen just floats out to the nearest adjacent plant, sometimes aided by water-bugs.

do you know more about the flowers? i didn’t know they had them

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

Alaska Public Media@alaskapublic.org

Meet Backpack, your 2026 Fat Bear Week champion. Backpack is 20 years old, weighs about 1,000 pounds and got his nickname because, as a cub, he loved riding on his mom's back across the Brooks River.
