Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker built a televangelist empire with deep roots in the Charlotte area. Their children have taken a different path. Read the full story: buff.ly/NSsEXPN #Qnotes #JayBakker #TammySueBakker #TammyFayeBakker #JimBakker #PTLClub #LGBTQFaith #ProgressiveChristianity #LGBTQHistory

I know "I want to fight to protect adult men's right to have talk to each other and even meet to have sex" will never be a winning campaign slogan but this is one of those days I wish someone would at least try

"It is often remarked that nothing we do now will matter in a million years. But if that is true, then by the same token, nothing that will be the case in a million years matters now" (Thomas Nagel). It is bizzare to see the EAs talk about the future this way

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

Nick Beckstead, noted longtermist and "effective altruist,” just comes out and says it: "But it now seems more plausible to me that saving a life in a rich country is substantially more important than saving a life in a poor country, other things being equal."

As somebody who grew up during the era in which there was a massive public push to reduce teen pregnancy, it’s absolutely wild to me to see people on Fox News now complaining that not enough teens are getting pregnant.

Headquarters@headquartersnews.bsky.social

Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough: “The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”

Watergate (well, the word, I didn't really understand the event until years later). I think the Bicentennial was the first event where I understood what was happening

Was the ten-minute limit a good thing (even for those creators who complained about having to make series to cover a topic)?

Are people seriously falling for this? Whoever it is on Grindr used a publicly-available photo of Sam Altman from November 2023. Anyone could've done this! x.com/sama/status/...

OMG the purge is coming for ASMR

Sam Cole@samleecole.bsky.social

a bunch of popular ASMR artists lost their channels forever this week, after YouTube cited them for violating terms against "sexually gratifying" content: www.404media.co/youtube-asmr...

I feel genuinely flabbergasted by the defiantly anti-journalistic approach of NYT Comms here. They're saying the NYT's reporting on the stance of the American Medical Association is correct, despite the American Medical Association saying their stance is different from what NYT reported.

NYTimes Communications@nytimespr.bsky.social

The New York Times’s body of reporting on the American Medical Association’s stance on gender-related care for minors is accurate and factual, and remains so despite the recent statement from the Chair of the A.M.A. Board, which contradicts the A.M.A.’s own statements. www.nytco.com/press/fact-c...

If we're talking about the very, very start, I think it was learning that all these other people had all these other creation myths- maybe this guy came out of his shell and made the world from the shell, maybe this couple dipped their spear in the water and began piling up mud to form land-

Mayor Gergely Karácsony of Budapest could teach a few American institutions how to deal with fascism. Rather than roll over to a Pride ban, he led a march of hundreds of thousands in Budapest. Now, he's being charged under their anti-Pride law. But he won't be deterred. Our latest story.
