I must admit I had a *smidge* of state pride learning this is a North Carolina political candidate. Of course him being Libertarian is to be expected.

Nice to see him straight up admit that he can't understand wanting good things for other people, with or without a positive rising tide in your direction

I think this becomes quite understandable in the context of an international fascist movement that has swept much of the planet in a decade, with horrifying and very extreme consequences for the entire species

We tried "everyone is entitled to an opinion" for three straight decades and all we have to show for it is four thousand cases of measles and a death cult running the government. It's time for people who don't know what they're talking about to shut the fuck up.

Americans are, as we know, a people who happily do things less when told they're not allowed to

Micah@rincewind.run

there are a lot of people out there who see the admin trying to influence the election and sneering “what are you gonna do, vote harder” and, yes, you can see it in the early voting turnout they are voting quite hard indeed

Describing a character from a movie with a cast of, idk, 6 if we include a phone call as "the only other woman" is some real spine-bending bullshit but whatever it takes to morally justify your dislike of the film

This gets done to death on this website but mrrrggghh you're not more interesting for looking at an okay movie that became *obnoxioisly* viral and thinking "but what if it bored me for feminist reasons instead"

“i pay tax before, but still pay tax now?” We spoke with dozens of half-literate morons about the machinations of local governance. Here’s what they’re saying.

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

this is how you have to treat these guys. with genuine contempt. your genuine contempt makes their smarmy fake contempt look weak and inauthentic. it immediately exposes their game. these guys are just losers who have sworn revenge for every humiliation. humiliate them again

the big thing the rise of LLMs has revealed to me is that there is a not insignificant chunk of the population that considers cognition itself to be a frustrating and unnecessary burden

Having seen the trailers and some early reviews of the Street Fighter movie it's clear what happened: solid plot featuring a core cast of characters dragged down by a "please the fans" need to spotlight what would otherwise be rich background characters turning the movie into a sloppy bloated mess

Bloodsport, while a movie I have criticisms of, is a good example of how to NOT do this. Half the fighters are unnamed but you know there's an east asian twitter account out there full of fanart of, uhh, the one in the black pants and red belt

Other than finding a 1982 dead ringer for Brie Larsen, Friday the 13th Part III is a shockingly unremarkable film compared to the first two. Even acknowledging the value of the 3D gimmick the movie is just dull.

This needs to always be in circulation in comics circles. I think especially after Comic-Con announcements stirs up those inner demons telling us we need to “step up”. That our drive is the problem, not an industry that makes its inefficiency and chaotic decisions everyone’s problem.

Wacker's Marvel EiC tenure is already looking night and day from Cebulski's, but the question is will we see that realignment give us the regularly scheduled X-Men reboot or the fabled "right the ship without breaking anything"

I long for just straight up racism instead of this "actually white people possess uh ancient ways of knowing and studying hurts us"

🕸️ Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-tober: Day 5- Nico Minoru 🕸️ I am a huge fan of Brian K Vaughn and Adrian Alphona’s Runaways, so Nico’s addition to the cast of a Spider-Man show really intrigued me.

I can understand not liking the design of Jace-universe Nissa but the more I've thought about it the more I actually like the horseshoe identity of four colors melding into the missing fifth color but on steroids. Interesting color pie theory and a way to solve the four color problem.

From a Commander deckbuilding perspective it's fun to think about your commander doing mono G things without being able to actually run Green cards in the deck. Clever workarounds hoping the payoff is worth it.

Im not a privacy crank but even still abso-fucking-lutely not lmfao

Amazon is ramping up its program to give delivery drivers smart glasses. The device captures still images constantly from the moment the driver leaves his van and walks to your door, potentially thousands per shift. You can’t opt out www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

Social media didn't make people more dumb but it did give them cheap access to validation/stupidity acceleration. In the past crackpots used to have to go to a bar to hear someone agree with them, which at least stimulated the economy.

Sarah Taber@sarahtaber.bsky.social

Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time. It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice. This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.

My higher-ed reform policy is basically: 6 year undergrad, big cheap state schools, let professors fail a lot more students, throw enough money at all the other problems this creates. Failure is normal, you do not need to worry about scholarships

this is part of my stance that older/advanced material such as violent fiction is as much a part of a child's development as age-appropriate stories. and that includes the "low stakes" of sneaking behind society's back to watch your first Rated-R film

Ken Jennings@kenjennings.bsky.social

But it doesn't do anybody any good to conflate actual trauma with "things that make me feel sad." We all have that! You weren't actually "scarred" by the horse dying in Neverending Story. You just felt big, grown-up emotions (maybe for the first time). And it happened in a safe, low-stakes setting.

Legend of the Dragoon has some flawed execution but man what a swing. Remake when, Sony?? -- And you all know Dark Souls lol it speaks for itself and I was there on the ground floor. If Legend of the Dragoon birthed me as a game fan the original Dark Souls changed me from a game boy into a game man
