Rowling *never* writes about women’s rights, workplace discrimination or the threats to women from predatory men. I tracked her posts for five months: Well over 200 hateful transphobic smears. Not a single post about women’s actual concerns or needs None

Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks. Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. https://wapo.st/4yt6dHY

I've been getting emails for a couple of days about a parcel that's going to be delivered. I don't recall ordering anything I've not received. Exciting times.

An excellent reason to back Ukraine in this war, for people who aren't convinced by the moral argument.

The backstory: Ukrainian drones struck a Yandex supercomputer facility in Vladimir, taking it out. Suddenly, bot activity in US social media fell by 49%, confirming suspicions that this was the site of a massive Russian influence operation targeting US social media—mostly targeting MAGA.

Another favourite UI pattern: The modal that pops up on a webpage a second after it loads, but is dismissed by clicking off it or navigating to a different page. In normal use, it means a question that was important enough to be asked gets accidentally dismissed before you realise it's there.

"we allowed rights to be stripped from minorities and tolerated illegal wars and destroyed literature about queer and trans history in order to prevent fascism"

a lot of people act like there's a trade being offered where we give up trans athletes in sports and in exchange fascism is defeated forever

I don't know what kind of regulations AI tech companies are trying to get put in place, but I thought I should record my prediction before I find out. I'll bet it's regulation that doesn't limit them in any meaningful way, but does make it much harder for anyone else to enter the same market.

Either that, or it's completely ineffective regulation, because claiming that AI is powerful enough to need specific regulation is marketing on and of itself.

What does paprika taste like? My hot take is that it doesn't taste of anything and that all it does is make food look slightly red.

New computer, but it is way more powerful than I actually need for most of the games I actually play. So it looks like I'm going to have to buy Cyberpunk again.

Imagine living in Clacton and being so joyless that you make the choice not to do the objectively funny thing of voting for Count Binface

I have some income again, so it's time to pull the trigger on a new PC... Just waiting for this AI bubble to pop... Any day now...

I really need to buy a new PC... I hope this AI bubble pops in the next, say, 2 weeks or so.

I don't quite understand how attempting to destroy FIFA results in him being able to steal International Rescue's technology, but it's good that his plans seem to be being foiled.

This is a great thread

John Woodcock resigned from Labour in 2018 to end an investigation against him into sexual harrassment, that involved his alleged victim resigning her job. But what do women's rights actually matter to JK Rowling when he's on her side when it comes to proscribing uppity trans people, eh? 1/

We should all take a moment to remember the Stockport rioter getting a brick to the nuts. Something to cheer us up.

Just bought this, so excited to play it... But I'm not going to be able to until next week 😭

On the 5th August, the EHRC's Code of Practice becomes statutory guidance. It will make life even harder for many trans & non-binary people. It's unworkable & harmful. The Good Law Project is challenging & wants to hear from people affected by these exclusions. goodlawproject.org/discriminato...
