We are passionate about how cells squeeze through tiny in spaces in vivo, and how they get to divide and make fate decisions whilst they are at it! We love fish, frogs, live microscopy and arts and crafts.

How do macrophages regulate their phagocytic capacity? We discovered that the nucleus plays a crucial part! 🧵 We found that apoptotic bodies-containing phagosomes move towards and mechanically perturb the nucleus of Drosophila embryonic macrophages in vivo. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

We found that neural crest cells are protected from mechanical stress by two mechanisms: 1) downregulation of laminB2 to allow fast nuclear shape recovery, and 2) upregulation of large DNA repair gene network. Together these mechanisms protect these long lived stem cells from mechanical stress.

We applied in vivo live imaging to follow neural crest cell migration in zebrafish embryos and found nuclei to become highly deformed when cells squeeze between the adjacent tissues. Despite mechanical stress, we did not observe NE ruptures or increase of DNA damage in confined neural crest cells.

🚨 New work from our lab: ESR1 fusions don’t just alter ER signalling — they fundamentally change how the protein behaves in the nucleus. We show they form chromatin-linked condensates that reshape nuclear organisation and transcription. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

What if an embryo made immune cells before it finished building the tissue they usually come from? In our new preprint, we show that annual killifish embryos specify neutrophils before germ layers are fully resolved. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... Huge thanks to my PI, @ohnolog.bsky.social ! 🧵

📢 We are looking for a Junior Group Leader to join us at @institutcurie.bsky.social! Having joined the department just over a year ago, I can honestly say that it is an exceptionally stimulating and supportive scientific environment, filled with outstanding colleagues — all in the heart of Paris.

#CellBiology: “The centrosome is exposed to mechanical forces and can even break when cells move through narrow or complex environments,” says Renkawitz. #LMU researchers led by Jörg Renkawitz have discovered how these cells protect a sensitive organelle, the centrosome, from being destroyed.
