The most dangerous person in America right now for our democracy is Elon Musk. He is DESPERATE to block Democrats from investigating him. Who knows what wrongdoing he committed but Musk knows and he is panicked. He has Spent $500 million legally to block Democrats. What will he do illegally?!

Thank goodness.

The MTA is pulling is fare evasion teams off of city buses after they failed to report multiple altercations with customers. “Our EAGLE teams won’t be re-entering the field until I am confident that their training ... meets our high standards,” MTA chair Janno Lieber said.

All hands on deck to save the 2030 Census (and everything that depends on it, which is a lot!). Thanks to @vksmith.bsky.social for a great overview of the Trump administration's latest threats to the census. cc @jeffwice.bsky.social @thenyic.bsky.social @council.nyc.gov

The census may be four years out, but if you want to prevent New York from losing congressional seats and desperately-needed federal funding, the time to act is right now nygroove.nyc/trump-census...

You know, we've actually had long periods in this country's history when we taxed the very wealthiest at high rates. This isn't some uncharted territory. You might want to look at what happened to the rest of the economy. Sounds like you'll be surprised!

These MTA fare inspections on buses look like a total clown show. Bus stopped, extremely slow to inspect each fare, arguing with riders rather than just fining them, letting people go back to pay before you check them. I do not have faith in the MTA to really pull off citywide proof-of-payment.

“Trump hires people who will tell him what he wants to hear, and what he wants to hear is the sound of his boots being licked.” Holy shit. Such good writing. ✍️. @nberlat.bsky.social | @atrupar.com | Public Notice is a must-read every morning!

New in PN: The weird rise and spectacular fall of Katie Zacharia "Zacharia is not a victim. She is a lying conspiracy theorist who desperately maneuvered herself to attract the attention of an image-obsessed fascist in hopes that she could gain money and fame by lying on his behalf."

Hindsight is easy, but I do think a lot about what a cataclysmic mistake it was for the Democratic establishment to concede instantly, in 2016, that "basket of deplorables" was a gaffe. It could have been used to own a hard truth, with nobody backing down from it.

It’s a highly illuminating interview (great on Jacobs’s side, thoroughly infuriating on Healy’s side).

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

Watch this discussion between @markjacob.bsky.social and NYT editor Patrick Healy where Jacob calls out the paper for this type of obfuscation and soft-peddling language, and Healy expressly defends it:

It's all kayfabe, an act of pretend conflict in order to bolster a Republican in an otherwise blue seat. Everyone knows this. Yet just this morning the nytimes wrote a profile of Collins reinforcing this false narrative that she is a moderate Trump skeptic. Why did they do that?

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

I think a shocking number of our major societal problems would vanish overnight if you could magically pull the plug on the X platform and Meta, both of which are carefully designed to turn people into the worst version of themselves.

I am angry tonight. Because tonight ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car. ICE makes this city less safe. We want them out. Now.

Socialism is something I do not like and am afraid of. Embarrassing shit from a guy with JD from Yale

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: How do you define socialism personally? JD VANCE: I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is you want to replace American workers with foreigners workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports
