I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Hey friend, if you’re someone with a prostate who voted in the 1992 presidential election, you should talk to your doctor about checking on that prostate. It’s worth it.

Prison Banned Books Week isn't as sexy as Banned Books Week, I know, but it's important to give a shit about prison censorship, too.

The Landscape of Prison Censorship in an Era of Increased Book Bans. What are literary advocates working to curtail prison censorship seeing right now, and what have they seen happen in prison censorship these last five years? bookriot.com/prison-censo...

I’ll admit, even with the below observation, I did not think Vivek would go hard on “women lie about sexual abuse”. Should’ve known.

I’ve come to believe that the Ohio governor’s race is one big consequential game of chicken. One side is hoping the voters are more racist and the other is hoping the voters are more sexist. This feels like a bad way to do this.

Yeah, Jovial Bob Stine would like a word…

Writing tie-ins is *a real fucking skill* and anyone who sneers at the people who do it can go piss up a rope. You think it's easy to write an entire novel to very specific order on an almost impossibly tight deadline? And have it be satisfying to read? Motherfucker, *you* try it. See how you do.

The Rooster reported that this attack ad on Amy Acton was being polled. That's why it doesn't have a disclaimer. The ad was leaked by somebody, not put on the air as far as we know. The biggest journalistic question right now is verifying who paid for it.

That Vivek Ramaswamy ad might end up being the worst own goal we've seen in a major race. Platforming the estranged mother of your opponent to attack her, only for everyone to discover that the mother protected the rapist of her 12-year-old daughter and stayed married to him, is beyond despicable.

Dr. Amy Acton's campaign is out with a statement:

The Rooster@rooster.info

Wrote last week on The Rooster about Conman cutting an ad with Amy Acton's estranged mother as his "October surprise." Well, here it is. Polling on it just went out.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how Halloween has been stressful for me ever since I was a kid and it’s led to me just not liking the whole thing. I am already afraid most of the time- turning that up to eleven just makes me feel worse. Anyways, it’s nice to be reminded I’m not alone.

The Flytrap@theflytrapmedia.com

In today's special Flytrap Friday edition, @katelynburns.com bravely situates herself as "the Ebenezer Scrooge of Halloween."

As a kid I was frequently sick to my stomach on Halloween and missed trick or treat. My parents always said “you were just so excited” and I now understand I very much was not.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Now we’ve started getting Michigan ads- is Musk pulling back from Ohio?- and wow they’re even more racist than I expected.

Hilariously, now YouTube is trying to sell me ad-free premium between political ads.

FOLKS, I’m going to Florida for Angie Nixon. Saturday in Tampa, Sunday in Gainesville (with the GREAT Dikembe). Turn out, Florida! You need you, the world kind of needs you on this one. Sorry, but it’s true. ❤️

From talking with people in the know and reading about its history, the original PRA was a negotiation that left no one happy. It was tissue paper waiting for the right president to blow his nose with it. And here we are.

Driving around near dinner time, all of our local stations are back over $4. Like, I’m glad it’s not $4.50, but I’m not sure I’d call it relief.

An Ohio appellate court has ruled the state's "EdChoice" private school voucher program is unconstitutional. The program uses public taxpayer dollars to fund private school tuition. The case will go to the Republican-controlled Ohio Supreme Court on appeal. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/10/15/o...

It’s deeply frustrating to watch public schools fight for crumbs as private and religious schools build new facilities with their EdChoice money. This is a step in the right direction.
