Old school country music was about robbing banks, killing cops, and being so lonely and heartbroken that you want to die. Now it’s just like “try that in a small town” and being weirdly protective about your daughter sexually

Very proud of my anti fascist grandad. He was a grain farmer and foot soldier for the CCF and, more broadly, the movement that brought us health care via Douglas. He is currently on display in a museum in the village of Climax, Saskatchewan (and yes, they know their town name is funny)

On a new episode of @broadbent.bsky.social's 🌅PERSPECTIVES🌅 journal podcast host Dave McGrane looks at Tommy Douglas’ legacy & outlines 10 notable contributions to Canadian Society that resonate today from his 1964-1971 Saskatchewan CCF government perspectivesjournal.ca/tommy-douglas/

Reread the Gormenghast trilogy recently and concluded that Steerpike did nothing wrong. Every evil thing he did was because the fucked up and backwards society around him drove him to it. Its a metaphor for the British.

After a reader reached out with questions about BC’s primary care provider waitlist, I went looking for data that would shed some light on the system, since the gov doesn’t voluntarily provide much info. I found data in an FOI response showing some residents are on the waitlist for 5+ years.

Some BC residents wait five years to get connected with a doctor, here’s how politicians plan to change that. Over a million BC residents are still without access to primary care New from Health Reporter/Associate Editor @emmaarkell.bsky.social pressprogress.ca/some-bc-resi...

Last nights results were actually a win for the separatists. Anyone celebrating them getting a nearly 25% vote in favour might be missing the bigger picture in terms of what we’re dealing with here. A growing far right movement that’s getting better at organizing.

Replying to @pressprogress.ca

Alberta reporter @stephenmag.bsky.social and Ontario Reporter @ericwickham.ca have asked the tough questions, with years of reporting on Alberta separatists culminating in one educational podcast for your listening pleasure pressprogress.ca/the-people-d...

pressprogress.caThe people behind the Alberta separatist movementAlberta reporter Stephen Magusiak breaks down the key figures in the Alberta separatist movement

Exactly. It’s not the mischief I have a problem with. That statue is a monument to a Nazi and and embarrassment to the country. It shouldn’t exist. It’s the doing it and then reporting on it part. And THEN letting people defend you, and ask for financial help on a crowdfund campaign.

Luke LeBrun@lukelebrun.ca

Roman Shukhevych is an “actual Nazi” who carried out mass killings of Jews and other ethnic minorities Any law that protects monuments glorifying Nazi mass murderers is a good law to break That said, it’s bewilderingly stupid Duncan tried to pass off his own vandalism of a Nazi statue as a scoop

They don't need to win, really. They need to succeed in making a loud enough statement to force the country's attention on their grievances.

Max Fawcett@maxfawcett.bsky.social

The separatists are going to lose today’s vote. But if Alberta’s political class doesn’t stop feeding and inflaming their bottomless sense of grievance and victimhood, we’ll all end up losing in the end. #abpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2026/10/19/o...

Duncan Kinney pled guilty this morning to defacing a statue and then writing about for his publication at the time, the Progress Report (NOT to be confused with PressProgress). An absolutely egregious and baffling ethical disregard. He's no longer a journalist, and hasn't been for quite some time.

I get the top gun reference but goose isn’t my favourite. Then again bros don’t get to choose their nicknames, by law, and it’s not the worst I guess.

Eric Wickham@ericwickham.ca

Great article ahead of what's happening Monday in Alberta from my colleague and close personal friend Stephen "The Goose" (nickname pending approval) Magusiak.

My granddad is in a small town museum. Antifascist, veteran, grain farmer that helped bring my country universal health care. I’m proud of my social democratic Saskatchewan roots!

Frank was such a G. I wish I could have got to know him more. I just have stories of him partying with local hutterites, but he passed in his 50’s. My mom believes he’s my guardian angel lol. Rip

(At thanksgiving dinner after not saying anything for months, looking up from my phone) “so anyways, Lothric and Lorian were absolutely correct in their decision to end the age of light…”
