Baseball—and many other sports—used to offer games with very little sound besides the cheering of fans. But now stadiums have nonstop stimulation, acting as theaters as well as sports venues, @elcush.bsky.social writes:
That the Supreme Court has ruled the president can without cause fire officials in myriad departments and effectively destroy our civil service -- but cannot fuck with a Federal Reserve boardmember -- says it all. Fuck over the people and how they are serviced? Cool. Fuck with the money? Hell no.
This is amazing - @kevinolearytv 🤡 is fearmongering about Chinese agents opposing his giant Utah data center… but it’s 2 young local girls in Utah who hilariously call him (and his “dumbass hat”) out👇🏽

TRUMP: Katie Britt -- I hope she always remains loyal to me so I can continue to support her
BRITT: You've got it
TRUMP: I would hate to go against her. That will never happen, Katie, right?
BRITT: That's right, sir
John Roberts is an elitist as well as a racist.
He thinks we're too stupid to understand what he is doing.
We understand too well. We see him.
We see the harm he has been doing from the beginning.
More importantly, history sees him.
Worst Supreme Court Chief Justice since Plessy.
NEW: Chief Justice John Roberts bemoans that Americans don't understand how the Supreme Court operates and see justices as "political actors". The court at times simply has to make "unpopular" decisions, he adds:

"To paraphrase Nathan Hale, I only regret that we have but one seat to take from the Democrats."
This is what Democrats are facing. Any Dem who favors bipartisanship over maximalist opposition is either lost and worthy of replacement or a Republican sympathizer.
Congrats to Julie K. Brown!
She was awarded a #Pulitzer Prize special citation today for her groundbreaking reporting in 2017 & 2018 for the Miami Herald exposing Jeffrey Epstein's systematic abuse of young women and the justice system & powerful network of associates that protected him for years.
UPDATE 3: no words. content warning obviously… dunno how many times FBI is allowed to fail, but it has. dozens and dozens of times

Ruling: True. We can't believe a word that comes out of the Trump administration on any topic. Not even whether Iran has agreed to peace talks or how many missiles we have left. It's no wonder people assume he staged one or more of his assassination attempts.
One reason conspiracy theories are reaching bipartisan status may be because this man lies like he breathes, the press corps magnifies his lies, and no one knows what's true anymore. I'll leave it to @beyerstein.bsky.social to provide a ruling.

I just want to point out that the WHCD took place in a ballroom. Holding it in a different ballroom wouldn’t make it safer. The administration chose not to designate the WHCD as a “National Special Security Event.” That’s the difference.
The argument that criticism of Donald Trump somehow incites violence against him isn’t just wrong. It’s an inversion of reality so brazen that it demands to be confronted directly.

Scott MacFarlane on the WHCD:
Celebrating the First Amendment while honoring leaders who attack and sue the press “doesn’t seem like a good fit.”
MacFarlane says he’d rather stay home than attend an event that feels out of step with its own purpose.
Amal Khalil was a devoted journalist who also rescued animals in southern Lebanon during Israel's bombing campaign.
Amal was not merely a reporter - she was a witness to the fracture of human conscience.
She carried truth with courage. 😔

The story of the Iran war is that Trump lost it in the first days. Everything since has been trying to deny that cardinal fact. You can see this by the fact that everything happening since has been trying to break free Iran’s hold on the strait, something it didn’t have before the war.
The story of the Iran war was that Trump lost it before it began.
1) Without coherent war aims, you can't POSSIBLY win.
2) It failed every test of the Powell Doctrine.
3) The unspoken aim was to prove Trump was better than Obama, but that train had already left the station.
The rest is commentary

The ears of every state or federal prosecutor who's ever worked an Embezzlement case just pricked up.
If you ever wondered how Donald Trump could transfer the cost of his Fürherbunker to taxpayers while personally pocketing millions, this would be Step 1.

This is something I've been hoping Dems do for some time. Hold the Senate GOP accountable for every incompetent the confirmed, and the destruction of American lives that resulted, but also for the oversight not exercised, especially over Iran.
Jeffries on Kash Patel: "We have to stop putting all the blame on the people who nominated this incompetent, toxic, malignant individual. What about the people who confirmed him? It's extraordinary to me that Senate Republican confirmed people like Noem, Bondi, Hegseth, RFK Jr, and Patel."
Mississippi is on @runforsomething.net's Battle Up list for a reason -- we believe with sustained investment and smart plays, MS can be a long-term battleground. There's potential here 👀
A new poll of Mississippi's U.S. Senate race from Impact Research has Democrat Scott Colom trailing incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by just 3 points.
With leaners added, she's ahead 47%-44%.
Trump won Mississippi by 61%-38% in 2024.

The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X.
I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!).
So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.
A couple points on this manifesto, apart from the racial superiority subtext others noted.
Palantir is a company built on public contracts, they bill the state billions to surveil and target the state's population. The manifesto exists to justify their demand for even more.
/1
Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

Amazon, which saved $4B in taxes under Trump's Big Ugly Bill, has cut 30,000 jobs since last October.
Verizon, which saved $2B, plans to cut 15,000 jobs this year.
Meta, which saved $3B, plans to lay off 20% or more of its workforce.
Trickle-down economics is a cruel joke.
NPR received its largest-ever donation from a living donor this week when billionaire philanthropist Connie Ballmer gave $80 million to the media organization.
Amazing kindness and altruism by Ballmer. There are heroes in the world.

This country is spending billions on a no-reason-for-it war, yet Americans are dying, going hungry and homeless.

BREAKING: The U.S. bishops’ Committee on Doctrine just issued a formal statement defending Pope Leo XIV's teaching authority on just war doctrine — less than twelve hours after JD Vance told a Turning Point USA crowd the pope should “be careful” talking theology.
This is a serious escalation.

The effective federal corporate income tax rate:
1950: 50%
1990: 25%
2020: 13%
Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate.
That is how we will pay for it.
Viktor Orbán's defeat came thanks to a broad, diverse, and patriotic grassroots movement—and shatters the assumption of inevitability that has pervaded illiberal movements across the globe, @anneapplebaum.bsky.social argues.

From new Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar's acceptance speech tonight. This is the absolute BARE MINIMUM platform for any Democrat running for President in 2028.
The wealthiest 1% own 50% of stocks and the top 10% own 87%, per Federal Reserve.
The bottom 50% of Americans owns only 1%, but we hear about the stock market constantly in media (even NPR and MS NOW). Seems like we could hear more about the opportunity costs of not providing universal health care.
