I have three novels to write, all different styles, and I'm worried they bleed into each other, as would whatever I'm reading - but none of them are SF, so I'm going to read the EDAs from the start, as a palette cleanser as I go along. First up - the 8 Docs, which I remember as being shite.

Just read Ben Elton's PAST MORTEM - and I like Elton's earlier novels - and it is without doubt the worst 'mystery' novel I've ever read. 100s of pages thinking 'nah, it can't be X, that's obvious to the point of idiocy' - then it is X in the end. Luckily since there's no other suspects really.

There is NO chance this book is ever being published if it hadn't had Elton's name on it - and since I know he can write and plot, I can't help but wonder why he thought it acceptable to chuck out so bad a novel.

Exciting news. I’m lucky enough to have seen a preview screening, and I can tell you that the concert is sensational. Bowie and the band are on blistering form. Brett Morgen and his team have done a magnificent job: sound and vision painstakingly restored and remastered. It’s going to be amazing.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Sobs in I have a god kid in europe and readers I post packages to in ireland. And it's already currently almost impossible to post things to Ireland/europe without weird charges and returns. Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving.

Edinburgh VV was one of the first record shops I visited. Back when I was 15 years old and allowed to go to tbe big city by myself. Truly an end of era. Rent rises have forced the owner out. A real shame. Going to pop in grab a T-shirt. #Leith #RecordShop #VinylVillans

Delighted to see Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia lose - and almost as pleased to see Serbia elect a crowd of ordinary people to represent them. If there’s one thing we’ve learned recently it’s that politicians have no special skills other than populism - and most of them not even that.

You have to laugh at the sheer insanity of Turning Point UK being found to be organising literal contract killings and paid agitation at protests up and down the country and it barely even raises a flicker across the press. If that isn't 'terrorism' on some level I don't really know what is

Danny Tommo's 'patriot platform' vigilantes were refused service in The George Inn, Portsmouth. They demanded to know why, despite the fact they do not have to be given a reason. Always make bigots feel unwelcome. Show the pub some love for doing the right thing. Things you love to see ✊❤️

The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.

Government support for drilling at #Jackdaw takes a wrecking ball to any pretence of UK climate leadership & pours fuel on an overheating world - and for what? It’s equivalent to just 2 months of UK gas demand, creates just 27 direct jobs & has *no* impact on energy bills🧵1/4

Do you have a favourite newsreader? Erm,that guy's okay... I guess... Shall we pay them money for some vague content? Fuck no! There are great people we're really big fans of who make awesome stuff, and we don't pay them jack. Pay a continuity announcer for one more podcast, in this economy? Naw.

I'm assuming Kabore is injured - I can think of no other reason to have Williams on the bench, and him not. Otherwise, an attacking lineup - and good to see Kingsley back - for all that the media thought Milne was back to his best on Thursday, I thought he still looked suspect.

This is as good as everyone says it is. But also note that the - I’ll be polite - ‘hostile questioner’ had no fear for his physical safety and walked away humiliated but unharmed. Would this be the case at a MAGA event?

People really are shit. Having spent last year in and out of hospitals with my dad, I am 100% certain the last thing he'd have given a toss about would have been the genital arrangement of some other seriously ill person.
