RIP Walter. Your performance in Babylon 5 was one of the great highlights of that groundbreaking show.

George Takei@georgetakei.bsky.social

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I used to have a Plantronics BackBeat headset for running. I was gutted when it finally died, and discovered Plantronics doesn’t make them any more. Earbuds and AirPods are not for me. They just don’t stay in my ears, no matter what I try. And traditional wired headphones aren’t fun for running.

So this week I picked up a set of Shokz OpenRun Pro 2s. They’re a hybrid headset: a mix of bone conduction + an over-the-ear speaker to fill out the sound. I don’t need audiophile-level results. All I need is the sound quality, battery life and convenience of my old Plantronics BackBeat Fit.

I managed to test them on my bike over the weekend. When the surrounding environment is quiet enough, the sound quality is better than my old Plantronics set ever was. Wind noise, loud cars etc totally drown out the Shokz. That didn’t bother me at all.

Please submit your small ideas for fixing Britain to the Small-Ideas.org website. It’s a new charitable initiative I’ve set up to try and make sure life’s potholes don’t get ignored. Working with two charities and a cross party panel to turn your ideas into policy then try and make it happen.

The sign clearly says TREATO COLLECTION POINT. I have presented myself for collection I don’t wish to complain, but the Treato Collection Point appears to be experiencing severe supply-chain issues. I’d like to speak to someone in management

When I saw the headline, this was my reaction too. Gordon Brown was one of the worst chancellors ever. With his pension reforms, he created a ticking time bomb that’s going to explode for far too many of my generation. Burnham should not be making this worse.

Why is the Government going after pensioners? It's time to tax the rich

To the people complaining these sex abuse cases have created a world where men now have to think 10 times before they touch a woman. Yes, that's the point. It's called consent. Welcome to human decency.

What *is* it about Reform that consistently attracts the worst people to it? #rhetorical

Victoria Derbyshire@vicderbyshire.bsky.social

Reform UK has received a £36m donation from a British cryptocurrency billionaire called Ben Delo Last year Delo was given an unconditional pardon by President Trump over a breach of anti-money laundering laws at his crypto trading platform, BitMEX, to which he had pleaded guilty in 2022

I’ve been struggling for what to say about 9/11, that hasn’t already been said. Like many, I watched it happen on live TV. I’ll never forget where I was, or the horror we all felt as it became clear what was happening. An act of pure hatred and evil.

Update: This is now the most signed petition on Senedd site petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/24... Keep signing & sharing - I know petitions don't fix everything but we need to use all the tools we have to address this If they can remove healthcare for one group, they could remove it for anyone

When you see something horrible done to someone you don’t like, take a moment and think: how would I feel if the same thing happened to someone I do like? While context matters, so does personal integrity and consistency. Otherwise, you’re just the flip side of the same coin.

This Substack post is gloriously written and made me laugh out loud three times

This explainer out of Australia is genuinely useful background and analysis of what happened with the Canada-US trade deal last night. Note that it is extremely and delightfully sweary. Also there’s an appended glossary of Australian slang. ifloz.substack.com/p/king-carne...

Gov.uk now shows the *Welsh* alert in the English section - and no English version of the alert. Great to see Welsh - and to see a Welsh-first approach. But we also need an English version for those who can’t speak Welsh.

This service alerts you based on *where you are*, not *who* you are. Imagine this had been an alert that required an immediate action, like an evacuation order. Any delay in publishing bilingual translations could be dangerous or worse. So very English and incompetent.

Microsoft strikes again. New login system for #LinkedIn: you have to click on a notification in the app to login from your browser. Only problem is … the app never receives the notification, and there’s no way to tell Microsoft “this is broken” 🤦‍♂️

Never mind that the machine running my browser is not “a new device” like their login system claims. Microsoft is not alone there. Many websites get this wrong. Presumably because the way they check is dodgy af.

Tech is hard, sure. But things like this are not. It isn’t difficult for their login system to also check that the notification has been received by the app. It could then offer a better experience if the notifications aren’t being delivered, and allow us to report a concern otherwise.

If the Conservative Party had any morals or ethics, they would expel Badenoch over this. A rotten party for morally corrupt people.

Sarah Murphy@13sarahmurphy.bsky.social

So Badenoch would recruit a neo-Nazi but *not* someone who didn’t want to leave the ECHR or someone who supported our NetZero commitments. Second chances for this guy but not Dominic Grieve. The Tory party is truly wretched. It’s screwed the country, betrayed its own and lost its tiny mind.

Do you run a theatre or somewhere that puts on performances? I've invested in lenses that let me get a bit closer to the action and I love doing work like this. Get in touch if you want me to to do some photography for you!
