If Netanyahu loses the election it doesn't mean Israel is suddenly going to stop its genocide or abolish its apartheid system. Gadi Eisenkot is the IDF chief of general staff who after Oct 7th advocated for the disproportionate force against civilian infrastructure in Gaza

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

The lesson from Serbia is that when no party represents the people, you can build your own alternative even if it takes years of community assemblies, organizing and resistance to severe state repression. Democracy and justice are fragile; it takes the utmost strength to keep them alive.

It’s a little scary that they’re not even trying to sell us on data centres. No “it’s for the good of society.” No song and dance. It’s just “we’re building them, we won’t tell you why, and you can’t stop us.”

Interesting how EverWind has pivoted from “we are building wind farms and a green hydrogen facility” to “we are building an energy sucking data centre for a money losing company, and maybe a wind farm somewhere down the road”.

Why is Musk willing to damage his brand and Starlink’s business to protect Russian data centres?

Lora Kolodny@lorak.bsky.social

Musk said he restricted Starlink in Ukraine- causing fast moving drones to lose connectivity - and that he had every right to do so because of some terms of service or contract that he didn't show us. (He didn't address suddenly doing this with no warning to Kyiv.) www.cnbc.com/2026/10/24/u...

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia’s strongman leader Aleksandar Vucic has conceded defeat to a student-led movement in a seismic political shift.

“Objectivity” in journalism today has come to mean implicit alignment with the values of colonialism, capitalism, and the patriarchy. Journalists who refuse get accused of ‘bias’.

Tim Bousquet@timbousquet.bsky.social

A bunch of people on Reddit condemn the Halifax Examiner (and me personally) for being "biased." Of course we're biased — everyone is biased. These criticisms might be conversation starters if they explained what they think our bias is, but just saying "biased" doesn't go anywhere.

The Nova Scotia NDP scolding MLA Paul Wozney just seems like a perfect example of the "be kind" tropes we see all the time. I always say when people say "be kind" what they really mean is "be quiet." The Nova Scotia NDP want us to "be kind/quiet." Taking to the streets is not violence.

Called Chender's office & told it that the best way to stop the enthusiasm ppl like me have for helping them out next election cycle is to fail to meet the moment continuously and veering towards the Darrell Dexter era. More ppl should call the office or NDP MLA(if they have one) and say the same.

An adviser to the Canadian PM said that one of the purposes of data centres is to create a market for fracked gas..

John Kostyack@kostyack.bsky.social

Data centers solve two big problems for Permian oil drillers: excesses of water and fossil gas. Historically they've flared the fracked gas and injected the produced water into the ground, causing earthquakes. Now they expect data centers will burn all the gas and use the water for cooling.

There are two economies: the labour economy, where we get paid for our work, and the asset economy, where folks make money from stocks, bonds, and real estate. And right now, everything (everything!) is a scam to suck money out of the labour economy into the asset economy.

And that’s why economists, the rich, and our government keep saying the economy is doing great. It is. *Their* part. For the rest of us, we’re struggling to buy food. And that’s on purpose. We’re being made poor so they can get richer. It won’t get better. It will get worse.

It’s time we acknowledge that the asset economy has become parasitic upon the labour economy. And that our own governments are working against us, and for the asset holders.

This is why, after Covid, economists said the recovery was “K-shaped”. Like the letter K, one part was going up, and one part—our part—was going down.

We’re at the point where the asset economy has become parasitic. It produces nothing of real value, only pretend value, things like options and NFTs. When it tries to create value, like with AI, it fails to earn even modest profits.

Equity funds are the ultimate form of this parasitism: they buy the places we work—places that are needed, that are valuable—and break them into pieces to sell off. Say goodbye to the place you used to work.

A lot of the asset economy (or as Marx called it, the “dead labour economy”) is a giant ponzi scheme. To keep from collapsing, it needs a constant influx of new money. Most govt projects are just new ways to take money from our pockets and plug it into the asset economy.

It’s also why inflation is so bad right now: the gov’t keeps printing more money (they call it quantitative easing) to keep the asset economy from collapsing. But printing more devalues each dollar, meaning people like us need more dollars to buy things.
