First they erased a ‘Protect the Dolls’ t-shirt from Strictly Come Dancing. Now they’ve erased Pride badges from University Challenge. The BBC are saying that our visibility as LGBTQ people is a political issue. Meanwhile they’ve commissioned a 2-part series on JK Rowling. Impartial? My arse!

Interesting that this has been deleted. I’ve written today to my SF TD who I met last week (as she welcomed me to Mullingar) expressing my disbelief that a party to campaigns on Zero Tolerance against violence against women can be manipulated by the right in such a way.
Matt Carthy has taken this post down now, but without an apology to Dublin Rape Crisis Centre at the minimum, it will be exceptionally difficult for me to justify giving SF even my lowest preference in the future too
Channel 4’s satire presents shocking-levels of ableism as a dark recess of history, when in fact it is a real and present nightmare, says Rachel Charlton-Dailey archive.is/DQ4P8

The Justice Minister interfering with the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre consent campaign "because it does not represent the views of the Government" is unsettling. Interference like this risks creating a chilling effect and self-censorship within wider civil society. www.iccl.ie/news/justice...

if Peadar Tóibín is suggesting that children need to get used to being touched without their consent, he should be asked why
Adverts run by the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre looking at consensual hugs between children and their grandparents has been suspended after criticism. Aontú's Peader Tóibín called the ad "bonkers", as he urged a "need to build resilience" among children. www.thejournal.ie/grandparents...

Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Not including those in refuges, direct provision unable to find housing, hospitals and nursing homes with no homes to go to, couch surfing and the growing number precluded from applying for housing or assistance due to housing policy.

The male GAA codes are built on the unseen work of women sacrificing their own free time to do the work of looking after children & elderly relatives that men who spend 3 nights training,2 nights at the gym, plus weekends at matches are consciously not doing. It thrives at the expense of women.
Fine Gael senator Evanne Ní Chuilinn has strongly criticised the GAA following Mary McAleese's decision to step down as the Gaelic games integration chairperson 'If any other organisation decided to behave like this way in relation to women, they would not get away with it.' jrnl.ie/7156278t

I'm sure she got advice on her image, on how it might be better to reject her LGBTQ audience. She didn't. She knew what it was to be powerless & poor & she didn't want *anyone* to live that way. A lesson for people w aspirations to public life: Hurting others doesn't have to be part of the equation.
