As a journalist, Iβve covered the anti-trans movement in Canada for almost a decade at this point. Thereβs a lot of room for change from here. My advice tonight is that we all slow down, take a big breath, and ready ourselves for the actual fights to comeβand donβt panic over the imaginary ones.

βShut up & be happy with the scraps we give you, & let us give up some of your rights to get other votes, because the fascists over will shoot you and we wonβt. But donβt worry, weβll give you more at some vague point in the long arc of history, promise. So long as you arenβt uppity about it.β

"Reading books is active resistance" is something I tell to my students every day.
AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"

Ebay started doing this a quite a while ago, unfortunately. The toggle to turn off AI training is here: accountsettings.ebay.com/ai-preferences
eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

As someone who spent the early 2010s on 4chan, it absolutely warped my brain. Ideology and slurs I'd never even heard prior were now things I saw regularly. A constant barrage of furious outrage over absolute nonsense. Soaking in that primed me for it, and it took years to deprogram that brain rot.
You know, the thing is, I had drafted this piece a month ago, and then never published it, because I thought maybe it was too mean.
