are we still doing this and by "this" I mean taking a deliberately vaguely weasel worded statement from a dem pol with a shot at winning in a red state facing a bajillion dollars of "he wants to trans your kids" ads and deliberately twisting it into the most unfavorable interpretation possible

Hunter Dunn@hunterisntdunn.bsky.social

Josh Turek’s rank bigotry is a betrayal of American values. His stance on trans rights is to the right of West Virginia, Alabama & seven other red states’ laws. Dems are +9 on trans issues; there is no moral or political reason to take this stance except to oppress trans people. Turek is a traitor.

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

Maybe I'm just that slow, but I've been using git for at least a decade at this point and I am just now discovering the joy and power of `amend` and the broader capabilities afforded by interactive rebasing. `Fixup` in particular seems like an incredible tool for maintaining a clean history!

This. They could have done a measured rollout with proper acquisition of training materials and plans established for retraining or providing for the people it would displace and realistic expectation management about what it can and can't do, and building out of capacity with sustainable power.

I would not be this mad if they hadn't hijacked the vast potential of an entire branch of technology so they could manufacture fake money based on chatbots that give you delusions and let scammers break the backbone of the internet while everyone gets fired & nothing works anymore.

Obama points out that values (or lack thereof) are just as big a problem for our civic society as affordability

Making a series of small refinements as you look things over in preparation for an MR (or in response to feedback from an ongoing MR)? Tack on a single cleanup commit and then amend, amend, amend! No more stack of "responding to MR comment1" "responding to MR comment2" for little tweaks!

I am not saying all of our laws are good. I am not saying that all of the consequences are appropriate or proportionate. I am not saying we should not work to improve that system to seek equity for everyone! It definitely needs improvement if we are going to live up to our promise as a country!

I wish I was exaggerating, 16 games from one dev, all AI slop, all clones of something else, all pumped out in the space of months. That's my experience of what AI tools are enabling, not creativity, not anyone's dream game, but spam. Constant, low effort, neverending, AI generated spam.

This isn't a causal claim. Of course unemployed people spend a lot of their time watching tv and playing video games. Like, that's a very common activity on weekends too.

We had an interaction, probably in 2019, where I just wanted to know what evidence he'd need to accept that detransition actually was rare, and it became clear that there was none. He's ideologically invested in something having gone wrong with trans care and will accept no evidence to the contrary.

Jack of a Couple of 🎃Lanterns🎃 reposted

There was a time I thought Jesse Singal was, like me, an honest journalist who came at trans coverage from a cis-centric perspective that sometimes led to outsized concerns about rare or nonexistent problems, but was also really trying to get to the truth of things. But that was 8 years ago.

💀 Em-balmed Arcadia 💀@emarcadia.bsky.social

I would suspect this is much closer to Richard Spencer disavowing white supremacist terrorists on camera on his way to Charlottesville. Singal's role in the movement requires certain gestures, and it's possible that he's legitimately not aware but I'm not convinced

When my kid came out to us in late 2019, I read everything I could find. Most of the coverage I found at the time was in line with what we still think is best practice, but the night before we met with a psychologist I found his 2018 Atlantic article and freaked myself out. I mentioned it to her

during the appointment and her eyes about rolled out of her head. It was clear that this article had really made it difficult to help parents truly understand where evidence-based care was pointing, and she was able to reassure us very quickly, but I'll never forget her disdain for singal.

Nothing reveals the fragility of liberty quite like watching citizens cheer for powers they would condemn if exercised against themselves. The path to tyranny is not merely an ambitious ruler, but a multitude willing to surrender constitutional principles for the pleasure of humiliating opponents.

easiest way to "torpedo" his evil "plot" is to simply do what you should be doing, and arrest the terrorists (not the Standing Together volunteers) when they start attacking the farmers. There's no excuse for this shit

it sounds kind of ridiculous but i think you can make a not entirely facetious case that 1) the industrial revolution and therefore ~modernity is downstream of mass-market stimulants (tea, then tobacco and coffee) and 2) a key impact of stimulants is their effect on specifically certain ND types
