Fear thrives where ignorance is cultivated. Give citizens the facts, protect their rights, and the designs of those who would discourage them lose much of their power. The ballot is the instrument by which free citizens remind government from whom its authority proceeds.

Our great Institutions profess an uncommon devotion to Justice, provided Justice makes no demands upon their reputation. Let the injured speak, and suddenly the Institution discovers itself the true victim. Thus is accountability transformed into persecution, and silence mistaken for peace.

A republic may withstand the armies of a foreign tyrant and yet perish from the suspicions he plants among its own people. The object is not necessarily to make the public believe the lie. It is to make the public doubt that anything can be believed.

When a public servant speaks of dishonesty, his first concern ought to be whether the people have been robbed, not whether he himself has suffered a personal loss. A thief may steal from his master, but a corrupt official steals from the republic.

Our modern billionaires require neither castles nor noble blood, merely wealth to purchase influence over those entrusted with governing the republic. When wealth buys the law, and the law protects wealth, the common man soon discovers that liberty is free in name but exceedingly dear in practice.

He who demands sacrifice from others should first produce the receipt for his own. I confess I was unaware that the Founders had appointed Mr. Ramaswamy their celestial secretary, much less authorized him to interrogate Americans at the gates of Heaven.

A Golden Age that empties the common man's purse is merely a gilded age for those already wealthy. Funny how the Golden Age keeps showing up in speeches but never at the grocery store.

When a nation's defense depends upon the goodwill of a single billionaire, we have mistaken private fortune for public security. No man's wealth should grant him the power to decide another nation's fate. He who holds the only key to your door may soon imagine himself master of the house.
