An ex-cop just stood up there and called the anti-Flock crowd "adversaries of Cleveland" because he thinks the system helps stop speeders (???)

"I hope [council] reconsiders over the summer whether you should be up there in that seat" A resident is mad over the council president's track record

"I will not sit around and do nothing while my neighborhood around me gets destroyed". A man offering mentorship for poor/troubled youth in the area. This is the kind of energy we need to see more of.

They're recognizing a group of youth from each ward who participated in a program which gave them experience in how the city government works. Kudos to them! 👏🏽

Big "oil" could have stayed in the energy business forever by using their scandalous profits to lavishly fund the kind of renewable energy research the Chinese politburo invested in. They could have sold essential technology all over the world. Instead, they bought bigger boats. Idiots.

This is why the term “cognitive surrender” needs to start being used QUICKLY. It actually clearly defines what these fools want.

Sam Altman has a new plan to make money from generative AI: he wants intelligence to be treated like water or electricity — and we’ll all have to pay him for it. His chatbots are degrading people’s ability to retain information and think critically. Now he wants to sell smarts back to us.

Sick and tired of grift posters who point out government happenings and tell us "this should terrify us all". No, fuck you, it should piss us off. Being scared of these electeds shouldn't be the default reaction. In a proper democracy, they should be terrified of going against the people.

same Overton Window-shattering tactic he’s always used: Even if worst doesn’t happen tonight - rhetorically he’s opened up possibility of the unimaginable, making lesser (but still horrible) actions seem moderate by comparison… all increasing likelihood that one day the worst really will happen

35%. He's threatening to perform a massive war crime, quite possibly even pressing the big red button. And his approval rating is still at thirty-five motherfucking percent. Reconstruction 2.0 can't ever possibly go far enough but we sure should try.

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” -Trump Article III The following acts shall be punishable: (a) Genocide; (b) Conspiracy to commit genocide; (c) Direct and public incitement to commit genocide; (d) Attempt to commit genocide; (e) Complicity in genocide.

Transportation politics is about dragging people kicking and screaming into change that results fairly quickly in a widespread consensus that we can't imagine going back to the way it was before.

👀 "In a wide-ranging interview with the Guardian last week, Hidalgo said pedestrianising the city’s riverbanks had been “a tough battle” but now that it had happened people did not want to go back."

The most impressive part is that absolutely nothing will shake off the absurdly high 30% approval rating baseline. Not even this.

probably completely obvious but the reason Project Hail Mary is doing so well (apart from being very well made) is that it is all about problem-solving, cooperation, self-sacrifice, and forming deep relationships with those from far away. All values that people feel a desperate need for right now.

We need to develop and build affordable housing in our city, just not… in anyone’s backyard, laneway, front yard, along a corridor, never on an avenue, heritage supersede housing and we all understand that under utilized parking lots are the heart of the neighbourhood.

What's something that experts/practitioners in your field universally agree upon, but that remains a "hot take" among the general public?

we’re not going to get anywhere until we stop letting companies pay millions in settlements instead of putting their leadership in fucking jail

The leading cities in Europe for alternative transportation still has cars yah dummies, lmao. I safely rode bikes in Paris and Amsterdam and still saw plenty of cars. Yet Paris has seen a huge decrease in air pollution and much less traffic. I'm so tired of this talking point, no one is banning.

Everyone at the TWU has brain worms.

This story is infuriating. The piece goes to great lengths to establish empathy for the women who negligently killed an entire family. The idea that it's unreasonable to permanently revoke her driving privileges and make her plead guilty to a crime is fucking outrageous.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

In 2024, an older driver killed a couple, their toddler and their baby as her vehicle sped through San Francisco. A judge has indicated that he intends to let her avoid prison, home detention and community service. But residents ask, how should a driver be punished for killing four people?

Defending street parking for commerce ignores that a 2-meter tall SUV completely hides the business behind it. Car bloat creates physical barriers. Human-scale transit keeps sightlines clear and storefronts inviting.
