This is what I need denialists to understand: the AI evangelists' wildest fever dreams (sentience, the singularity, whatever-the-fuck) don't need to be real for the tech to be hugely consequential. A machine gun doesn't need to be superintelligent.

Yesterday I provided my immune system with the latest enemy intel and let me tell you it is working VERY hard on those cellular combat drills right now 🫠

If the Democratic party is allowed to win the election, expect GOP hostage-taking to begin immediately. The Dems better be planning for it now. Trump WILL shutdown. He WILL default. He will veto the debt limit. With glee. Trading away rights to keep the lights on isn’t going to work this time.

This is not a blue wave. This is a Fuck This Shit wave. It will not be told to be reasonable. It will not be told what is not possible. It will not be told to wait for the next election. It will not hesitate to go for Democratic throats. Party Democrats had better be getting ready to fight dirty.

For any who still believe that AI is useless or all hype, I beg you to look again with an open mind. Ignorance will not be bliss. For clarity, I am not pro-AI. But that does not mean it is a toy. Call it fancy autocomplete or a stochastic parrot if you like. It’s frighteningly good at it now.

Dare Obasanjo@carnage4life.bsky.social

The gap between people who have experienced how advanced modern AI is today and those who think AI is just hype is widening. With AI I’ve seen weeks of work done in an afternoon while many people think it still can’t write or summarize an email.

The labs want regulation? You suspect it’s all a ploy for hype and marketing? I don’t understand why we care. Let’s regulate them to absolute bits. They have no idea how much people hate them right now. Everyone they know loves AI. They’ve fooled themselves. This may be the last chance we get.

What did we learn from the Supreme Court's three-sentence Monday night ruling leaving on hold the Trump administration's effort to interfere with mail-in voting? Quite a lot, as it turns out—and at least some of it is good: www.stevevladeck.com/p/250-what-w...

stevevladeck.com250. What We Learned from USPS v. CaliforniaIn refusing to put the USPS mail-in ballots rule into effect, the majority didn’t say very much. I still think there are three big lessons in Monday's ruling.

In 1980, Intel introduced the 8087 floating-point coprocessor chip. Plugging this chip into your IBM PC made math 100 times faster, good for CAD and spreadsheets. I opened up the chip to reverse-engineer exactly how it does complicated calculations. Let's take a look inside...

The Roberts Court doesn't get that much credit for only handing the GOP a dozen seats in 2026 and holding off on adding one more at the last minute.

I think it’s worth explaining what the Supreme Court actually did. As Justice Sotomayor explained, the decision only postpones whether California can sue over Trump’s executive order on mail-in voting.

Like, how the fuck can it be that courts aren’t allowed to “change the rules” too close to an election, but the Executive , the branch that chooses when to do it, can pick a day when the courts are helpless to stop them?

Yesterday I told you my story. Today, my interview with Adam Harris at The Atlantic — how it felt. Thank you to everyone who wrote yesterday, the officers still serving who can't say anything aloud, the parents of trans kids, who only want them to have a future. I read every note.

It's not often that I read a judge’s ruling and start cheering out loud. Yesterday’s order in Trump’s IRS case was a welcome instance. My write up at the link in comments.

Every time I make the typo "grabity" part of me wants to argue that it should have been called that all along.

For any who haven’t realized: A “real name” policy acts to silence trans voices. I got my face permabanned from Facebook by attempting to use my real name instead of my deadname.

I remain of the view that regulation of social media is better than a ban for young people. But I also pretty much agree with all these proposals.

In the 1980s, if you wanted your IBM PC to be faster for spreadsheets or CAD, you could buy the Intel 8087 floating-point chip. Internally, the chip runs special code called microcode. We opened the chip, extracted the microcode, and are figuring out how it works. 1/n

Yesterday, SLC came together to protest the site of a new ICE detention center warehouse. We showed that we will not watcn as a rogue government brutalizes our immigrant brothers and sisters and tramples the Constitution. But this was just the start. Please watch for more ways to resist with us.

It seems timely to re-re-up this crystal clear Nov. 2025 @lawfaremedia.org article explaining precisely when federal officers can and cannot be criminally prosecuted by state authorities. It's by @bgodar.bsky.social of Univ of Wisconsin www.lawfaremedia.org/article/are-...

Replying to @swiftonsecurity.com

And it is unfortunately extremely dangerous for someone to take the letter of the law to its logical conclusions, instead of its practiced one. Because the law in text is extremely punitive and not something you want to be subject to.
