That saying it's a revision dramatically changes the results shows that the models are not doing what they appear to be doing. The solution, seems to me, is models that do less. Like a grammar checker, a math checker, a citation checker, a plagiarism checker. Not a model that loves Shakespeare.

I mean this is just objectively true. We all repeat his best bits constantly, to the point we've forgotten many of them are his bits. He has the brilliance of the politician, which is to make himself the vessel for others hopes and dreams even when he stands for the exact opposite.

I know it's really trite at this point to say it but I fucking hate him and I fucking hate the shit that he says and I fucking hate that he paints a target on random people trying to live their lives for the crime of Being Not White

The mentioned "transfer of hosting duties" was the transfer of a symbolic wooden gavel, which did not take place because the US boycotted the meeting.

It's all just electrical impulses travelling down a bundle of wet wires.

That „it’s all just linear algebra“ was an insider joke in ML circles, and we should have never let any normies hear it. They can’t handle it.

I am just a simple retired stockbroker, but as of August, Anthropic were talking about a run rate of $65bn. Now they have declared Q3 revenue of $16.8bn ($67.2bn annualized). That is ... not much growth? They are headlining qoq figures versus the $11bn and odd for Q2, but ...

On a plane about a month ago an older man wearing multiple medical devices was in the aisle seat next to me. I looked down at his phone and saw that he had taken a creep shot of the woman across the aisle and texted it to his wife. She wrote back "Looks Muslim. Hates white men that's for sure."

The taking pictures of what people are texting in public trend is pretty psycho. Like yeah most of the time what they’re texting about is pretty embarrassing or bad or whatever, but normalization of looking over stranger’s shoulders and surveilling them for #content is pretty psycho!

He did not see me nod and opened the conversation with "She thinks I took a picture of her" which I guess isn't exactly a lie although it was intended as a denial.

Anyway I tried to get a picture of his phone screen, but it came out too blurry. I do not regret the attempt, only my failure.

The woman, fully aware that she had been photographed, called the flight attendant to complain. The fa just kind of stood there until I started nodding to confirm the story. The woman was moved to a new seat. I was not reseated and had to listen to creepshot guy's entire life story.

She condemned the Biden U.S. arms deal with Israel, and as retaliation the Biden administration opened an investigation against her. The Trump administration is actually piggybacking off that Democratic investigation. Both parties are cesspools of Islamophobia.

Another reason to be thankful, on this Canadian Thanksgiving, that I'm north of the border. It would perhaps be edifying, however, to inquire exactly where the fuck the Democratic Congressional "Leadership" is. Oh, wait, silly me, she's Muslim so they won't lift a finger to help her.

Gavin Newsom backs measure to kill the billionaire tax and ban future wealth taxes Gov. Gavin Newsom isn't just fighting the billionaire tax. He's backing Prop. 42, which would ban future wealth taxes in California, too.

actually having a bunch of rich assholes decide everything is antithetical to democracy. it is incompatible with it, and if allowed to continue, it will destroy it. we have to be able to just stand up and say that, in any context

Did this person just not read the book or do they have some sort of brain damage? Many things in this world are contestable but the title is not ironic.

This is funny to me because one of the arguments constantly made against the welfare state (and indeed one of the O.G. arguments against democracy itself) is that people will bankrupt the government by voting themselves free money. As it turns out, no they won't.

people are saying maybe the cornell case leads to the end of campus greek life. which feels daunting but plausible. my preference though would be the end of ivy league universities & everyone whose degree is from one of them has to wear a dunce cap until they've officially proven they aren't a shit

I went to one philosophy club meeting in undergrad. The topic was "what is art?" and this was the first slide. Everyone who spoke agreed it wasn't. Even the professors didn't take the other side. I didn't say anything because I hadn't really collected my thoughts into an argument.

The reality is that there is no non-violent way to non-consensually end a healthy human being's life. The effort spent to fool death penalty advocates into thinking they are participating in something clean and surgical makes an already barbaric spectacle disgustingly hypocritical as well.

Such a funny contrast. Nader has done more for the average American than almost every member of Congress.

They don't have homework in the honors classes at my kids mostly white middle school and I think our whole family is grateful for it.

Anyone who interacts with a school principal knows that they have an incredibly demanding, incredibly stressful, thankless job. Demanding a meeting with my child's principal when it's too late to do anything and bullying them until they cry is utterly incomprehensible to me.

I understand that they were very difficult weeks for everyone involved but as adults we should be the ones maintaining perspective. There was clearly no serious educational deficiency here or she wouldn't have caught up so quickly.

Also the obsession with homework is bizarre? She acknowledges that there's no evidence that it helps students and just throws in a totally unsupported assertion that it would have helped her daughter.
