This drives me CRAZY. I grew up playing sports w/ boys. I played on a U12 boys select soccer team, b4 switching to a U12 girls team that kept beating us. Nobody had any issue with any of it. Youth sports have never had the strict sex/gender boundaries that “XX-XY” activists are now trying to defend.

Andrew D Thaler@drandrewthaler.bsky.social

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

Hamilton's is the right position, valid if you leave out the reference to Jesus. Of course, Hamilton, a minister, has an authority in this matter that cuts across political constituencies and discourse.

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

Be 'people' he means himself. He is unclear on the meaning of the term incumbent. This is right up there with 'people' not knowing that the word dumb has a b at the end of it. We are being governed by the worst of the worst.

Larry Kudlow, interviewing Trump, claims that Californians "hate cars"

True, but Democratic leaders don't have to accept the narratives, they can push back sharply. The GOP is good at this, we can learn a thing or two from them. In fact, if there's one lesson I hope we are learning is that fight -- loud and direct -- from our leadership is a requirement.

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

If Democrats actually win big because people want a check on Trump corruption I expect every move to do so will be covered in the corporate media as being risky to their 2028 position.

Things have taken a turn for the worse of late but there has been an improvement in the social position of LGBTQ people over the course of my lifetime. Depending on the letter the degree of improvement varies but I think it is fair to say that in all cases we are in a better place. Note, I am old.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

This is the line of attack that explains why in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the West was a hotbed of populist and socialist politics. In Oklahoma -- OKLAHOMA -- the Socialist Party candidate for governor, Fred W. Holt, won over 20% of the vote in the 1914 election.

Talarico: "We just found out that [Elon Musk] is almost single-handedly bankrolling this effort to install Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate and defeat this movement...Elon Musk wants our land. He wants our water. He wants his very own personal United States senator. He is trying to buy Texas."

This seems like a ripe topic for investigation should, inshallah, the Democrats take the House and Senate. When it has come up, the panic on the faces of those being asked is something to see. And if there aren’t brutal, legal but beyond vigorous, Congressional investigations I will lose my mind.

Trump: "You know how much money we're taking out of Venezuela? Hundreds of billions of dollars we're taking out of Venezuela"

Ossoff: "If you're involved in any of this, next year you'll be raising your right hand and swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God, in front of Congress!"

I know I shouldn't laugh but this headline from SFGate is testing my composure: "Two stabbed inside Bay Area's largest corn maze"

Do Democratic aspirants to the presidency know that they are being lapped daily? Ossof versus Schiff or Beshear or Klobuchar who would you pick? Policy wise, I don't see huge difference among them but fight wise, it's night and day. Even Newsome - who tries to jab - pales compared to Ossof.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Ossoff: "At a rally earlier this week in Ohio, the president egged on supports who assaulted a woman demanding the release of the Epstein files. Because if you can count on one thing from this White House, it's their tireless commitment to war, inflation, and covering up sex trafficking."

NBC reports that Senate Democrats asked AG Blanche to confirm the DOJ will not seize ballots, voting machines, or other election materials. How about telling Blanche that if he does any of this he will be held liable and prosecuted vigorously as will any DOJ employee who assists? Use your power!

So are social media platforms responsible for the content on their sites or not? If not, what the fuck is this? If they are, let the libel lawsuits begin!

Chuck Schumer — one of the most powerful Democrats in the country — has not issued statements to the press or through his social media channels about the administration’s attack on Ilhan Omar, which critics have described as a five alarm fire for the state of democracy in the U.S.

1,000 years from now? What about today? There are many theories as to why Trump, why now -- some more compelling than others -- but none seem adequate in explaining the current moment. And, with all due respect, the "judgment of history" isn't worth a bucket of warm spit to anyone today.

1,000 years from now, teachers will struggle to explain to their students how at this time in history, we found literally the most despicable human being in America and made him the most powerful person in the world

Being against the death penalty means you don't have to engage in insane debates on when, why, where, and in what form state-sanctioned murder is legitimate. Live-streamed or hidden away behind walls, by gun, gas, or hanging, the death penalty is an abomination.

at one point segregation and anti miscegenation laws polled off the charts in south carolina. should we have been ok with a democratic candidate who said black people were less than human so we can "win first"? no? then why the fuck is it ok to do this against trans people? hint: it isnt.

jdsvolk.bsky.social@jdsvolk.bsky.social

I don't like this ad either. But she's in She's in freaking South Carolina. Embracing losing is how we end up in this present hell. WIN first, so that we can actually have a chance to fix this kind of messaging. It's at least possible if you vote and win.

A bonkers response. The question is also a little odd. What do you mean how do you define socialism personally? Personally? OK, if that's what we are doing we are going to get Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs answers like the one below. Neither of the things Vance lists has anything to do with socialism.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: How do you define socialism personally? JD VANCE: I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is you want to replace American workers with foreigners workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports

I want to yeet Musk right over the border wall. I would then tear down the wall but specifically exclude Musk from returning. So my policy preference is open borders and freedom of travel except for Musk. He’s on permanent yeet order.

JD Vance on H-1B recipients: "It's one thing if you were to bring in a person like Elon Musk. I think 99% of American citizens look at somebody like Elon Musk and say, 'if that person wants to come in and build something great in the US, we support that.' But if you're bringing in an accountant... "

my theory that ive been pushing since 2016 is a lot of mainstream journalists, who are overwhelmingly white, have parents and grandparents who voted for trump. instead of admitting that mom and dad and gramps and meemaw are idiot racists, we've spent the last decade pretending they arent.

Sen Schumer is quoted in Semafor (10/6) as saying “If [Trump's] nominees are as crappy as his present ones, very few of them are going to get through.” VERY FEW? Try NONE. What is it going to take to get the Democratic Party to understand their role is to fight not manage the GOP?
