on the other hand it does stand to reason that "highly capable productivity tool for business" (Claude) would sell like gangbusters, while "Nazi CSAM generator" (Grok) would not

There's nuance here about "how do we use platforms owned by the fascists". You *have to understand the political purpose of the platforms* in order to use them to subvert authoritarians. For the most part, Americans simply do not. Centrists (including DNC consultants) do not. Major media does not.

Key lessons from Brazil Amplify our people. Ignore the opposition. Use the tools owned by fascists to defeat the fascists? Meet the people where they are. May need to reconsider my staunch position of boycotting Meta for the reason. Thoughts?

I think it's a great sign when the country's governance is being traded between parties that run on how bad the economy is doing but once in power, insist the economy is doing fine, actually.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Kevin Hassett was on Fox News yesterday insisting that actually, the economy is incredible

Have to think that Brazilians seeing how hard the Trump administration was pulling for Bolsonaro moved the needle against Bolsonaro. Similar results to Canada for Rubio's state department.

Real capitalism has never been tried

Wannabe Apparatchik@apparatchikwannabe.bsky.social

this is the really maddening part because like, somehow everyone has decided to pretend that publicly traded companies are the personal property of the CEO, american capitalism has just voluntarily surrendered itself to feudalism, it’s just insane

"A documentary is when something is true and the more true something is the better of a documentary it becomes" seems like a genuine opinion a shocking number of people hold. they are of course wrong

Company with no debt concerns, SpaceX

β€œ.. I predict .. that you’ll see a global output deal for Skydance with SpaceX, and an investment by SpaceX into Skydance, to delever Skydance and take a little bit of the burden off .. β€œI’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. β€œWhy would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

They are already threatening to pull broadcast licenses from like CNN, the days of this nonsense "what if" equivocating need to be over.

People demanding Zuck be hauled before Congress to explain why No Kings insta was suspended... how would you feel if MAGA GOP hauled MSNow execs to explain why they covered Trump the way they do? Both are editorial choices protected by the First Amendment. If this annoys you...

This should be seen as the image of liberalism in times of fascism: a zeppelin, named after the aging and dying liberal president who courted Hitler and the nazis out of contempt for the Left, burning and falling from the sky as a direct result of the nazis rolling back safety protocols.

this person was never meaningfully leftist, and certainly not in recent memory. saying this is just a way of saying you had your feelings hurt by then-young people on twitter in 2011. this woman is like 55 now and a paglia cosplayer

Jane Coaston@janecoaston.bsky.social

I'm not saying every "dirtbag leftist" was and is an amoral garbage bag, but I'm not not saying that.

Is there a work of art that was created well before the current era that you feel explains Trump and MAGA and everything better than anything contemporary? For me it’s Assassins (1990) but I’m curious if other people have one.

Anthropic banning β€œabusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude in its new usage policies is proof to me that tech companies are going to moderate violence against AI before they ever moderate violence against women and minorities

however the election shakes out, a minor lesson of 2026 is that maine is basically an alien planet where everyone is a grumpy old salt retiree at birth and we should consider giving them to canada as an apology and goodwill gesture for what we did to the Expos

progressive movements are judged by their shrillest, most extreme members. regressive movements are judged by their calmest, most mainstream members. this is simple journalistic balance.

The thing about Bayes’ Theorem is that while you can use logic to propagate probability distributions through chains of thought, doing so without data just makes the result a new set of priors. The result is just belief expressed as a degree of surprise.
