Lots to chew on in this by @shanegoldmacher.bsky.social and Beth Reinhard, such as: "Mr. Lahn cast an Iowa ballot in the 2024 general election. But voting records that have not previously been reported show he requested that his ballot be mailed to him—in Kansas." www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/u...

Melania brokers a ceasefire in Russian-occupied Ukraine, and Newsmax reportedly gets exclusive access to film it. Humanitarian aid is welcome. But who controls the narrative? Russia invaded Ukraine. No amount of carefully staged benevolence should turn the aggressor into the victim.
The first lady helped broker a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky to allow humanitarian aid and civilian evacuations.

The Des Moines Register's Tyler Jett has more today on the legal and financial problems of Derek Wulf, GOP nominee for Lt. governor. Amazingly Zach Lahn's campaign is still claiming "all creditors have been paid" and refinancing is "nearing completion." www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/p...

People across America — and the world — are paying the price for the attack on the federal civil service. We're sicker, less safe, and more financially vulnerable. Read the full report from our Civil Service Strong initiative: https://bit.ly/4k5nUtA

New post by Ric Zarwell, John A. Lundell, and Kevin W. Techau: Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has abandoned the state’s top environmental enforcement duties, shielding corporate polluters while everyday Iowans pay the price. www.bleedingheartland.com/2026/10/16/h...

Midwest Republicans, and even some Democrats, say Iowa scored a coup with a $15 billion steel plant powered by a Minnesota iron ore mine. The history is messier.

Chris Jones, the cargo shorts-wearing candidate for Iowa ag secretary, "is indelicate but deals in facts," according to Art Cullen. “He is not the reassuring type. He will force an uncomfortable conversation about the way we do things. He calls out political and academic cowardice.”

No, I do not support raising taxes $7,500. That's just my opponent lying to your face like political operatives do. Read the full fact check here: https://dailyiowan.com/2026/09/17/politifact-in-governors-race-zach-lahn-says-rob-sand-wants-to-raise-iowans-taxes-by-7500-a-year-does-he/

You never have to hand it to Steve King, but it goes to show how cuckoo bananas the current GOP officials in this state are when Steve King looks like a voice of reason. Brenna Bird needs to lose re-election and I hope Montgomery county voters have the good sense to toss Ozuna out on her ass in '28.

I reported in September on a $540,000 loan to Derek Wulf, which helped Wulf start paying off judgments in July. Wulf's in-laws took out a mortgage to secure the debt: laurabelin.substack.com/p/cy-hawk-po... Today Tyler Jett scooped more details on the loan: www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/p...

Early voting in Iowa starts this Wednesday, Oct 14. If you don't need to vote by mail I strongly recommend voting early in person. You can do that in all 99 counties at the county auditor's office, and some counties will have satellite locations open: www.bleedingheartland.com/2026/10/08/h...

This is the republican Lt. Gov candidate. Why would anyone want someone like this leading their state? Vote smarter, people. Ultimately, the responsibility lies with us.
A few new filings in Derek Wulf foreclosure docket today. Judge DENIED joint request from receiver and attorneys for the bank and Wulf to restrict access to the inventory of Wulf's assets. Instead said receiver could file redacted version, which he did: www.bleedingheartland.com/static/media...
