It is both very unlikely Trump will personally succeed at establishing a full-blown dictatorship before he's gone, and also the case that Trump's tenure in American politics has massively increased the chance this country will have a full-blown dictatorship at some point in the next 30 or 40 years.

EXCL: The Soho Society is trying to stop the redevelopment of a deserted office because it would make Soho too busy. They claim that adding new bars, restaurants and cheap office space would alter its "established character as a quieter civic and green space". My @the-londoner.bsky.social scoop:

To somewhat push back: the Israeli electoral system is fine, actually. The trend the thread describes of personality vehicle parties is real, but it obscures the origin of it. It's not inherent to the system - it only emerged after Sharon broke Likud during the Gaza Disengagement.
This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...
Thinking about this today after reading some months ago all the justifications for "onion person"'s terrible Ukraine jokes
I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

if voting didn't matter they wouldn't be working so hard to stop you
The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

Omfg!! 14:45: “…the cultural values are vastly different. In England…they don't have fire recall the way we do—they have fire brigades, and people in the building use buckets while waiting for the brigade. In the U.S., we design elevators to perform specifically so firefighters can use them safely.”
Well I suppose it's good that the line is drawn somewhere
NEW on @zeteo.com — Venues are *pulling out* of hosting Vivek Ramaswamy for his bus tour across Ohio in the closing days of the election. “We’re getting calls that people don’t want him there,” a top Ohio Republican says. “It’s that damn ad.” From @andrewperez.bsky.social and @swin24.bsky.social:

@jamesomalley.co.uk It's unsurprising that TfL is low on cash - the Mayor's various single tube fare freezes (ie most useful to people like tourists!) have cumulatively cost £1-2bn over the last 10 years. That's a lot of tube upgrades and new buses.

This is right. There are about 1.5 real cities in America
Before the east coast wakes up and I get in trouble, let me offend an entirely different group of people and note that I don't think this is Americans so much as "non city people" - regular public transport users simply have more spatial awareness drawn from long experience of being part of a crowd
