Greens: This is public land being handed to developers, and Greens believe it would be much better for VIC Govt to build genuinely public housing on these sites, rather than just leaving it up to developers to choose the mix of housing. And once we give public land away, we can never get it back.

Dr Helen Haines is fighting for her life after a horrific car attack, yet media applies no pressure on Pauline Hanson to remove her cartoon of political rivals inc Albanese being mowed down by a car. Political violence isn't satire, it’s dangerous. Hanson should remove it & apologise.

Words matter. Not only on social media but in the way MSM platforms idiots to spew their discrimination. The media can’t play the sympathetic soul when it comes to the shocking Helen Haines attack & then promote the behaviour of the haters. Some people respond to the prompts & act accordingly.

In Crikey today, I have a long read on Canberra’s endearment with AI and the dubious promise of data centre riches. While Australia’s creatives are being sold down the river, you don’t need to fire up Claude to spot some cracks in the hype-doom sales pitch ($) www.crikey.com.au/2026/10/08/a...

crikey.com.auCanberra is 'drinking the Kool-Aid' on AI. Where will it take us?The Albanese government is treating the promises of AI and data centre investment like a digital mining boom. How does it sit within Labor's broader social project?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if AI can't improve productivity of coding, then all other claims about productivity improvements are essentially horseshit. Coding was the one thing everyone was like "well yeah of course it will be able to do that faster"

Harvard just dropped a study AI productivity in software engineering and it found the average increase in productivity from using Claude code is.....zero and for exactly the reasons you'd think fion.ac/jellyfish.pdf

To every Australian banging on this morning on talkback radio about wanting ZERO migration, I concede. You can have it. As long as you are ok with the high chance of ZERO emergency medical care when you’re sick. ZERO aged care when you’re old. ZERO fresh food when you’re hungry.

'Power is its own constituency. It exists to protect itself.' Authoritarianism sounds scary, but it arrives bit by bit. We're already doing the work for some grim future. Will be talking about this and more at Sydney Opera House's Curious program this Sunday. www.crikey.com.au/2026/09/28/r...

crikey.com.auDon't think Australia is immune to authoritarianismNobody wakes up to sudden authoritarianism. We relinquish ourselves to it by allowing our favoured government to get away with bending norms and rules. Over time, these bends become clean breaks.
