325 #kakapo! The chicks from this year's record breeding season are now juveniles and so have been added to the population. In 1995 there were just 51 kākāpō left. Recovery of critically endangered species _is_ possible with sustained effort. #kakapo2026 #conservation #parrots

It even includes ASCII art!

A few people have asked me recently about how OpenSSH sshd implements privilege separation after the changes of the last couple of years, such as splitting sshd into multiple binaries. I finally got around to writing it up - please take a look if you're curious. github.com/openssh/open...

Here's an easter egg in the new Lego Batman that I think all of you will REALLY appreciate. It's so good, I had to make a video.

Some yrs ago there were several UK marketimentaries that included Lego's existential crisis, and also wound up explaining clearly how IP-related dynamics were both the cause of the near-annihilation and of the resurgence. Lego is culturally, anthropologically, and economically complicated.

There are no technical or compliance reasons to double the size of symmetric keys in response to the threat of quantum computers. This common misunderstanding of Grover's algorithm risks wasting limited resources that should go towards deploying actually urgent post-quantum algorithms.

Newsrooms should not block the Internet Archive. Any public service publisher should not block the Internet Archive. If anything, we should all be directly supporting the Internet Archive.

Enthusiastically recommend this PZ blog post for anyone pondering tech risk in the real world. It's full of dry understatement like "Gaps in vendors’ understanding of their attack surface is a common source of 0-click vulnerabilities" & spotlights miscellaneous misaligned industry incentives.

Today, Project Zero released a 0-click exploit chain for the Pixel 9. While it targets the Pixel, the 0-click bug and exploit techniques we used apply to most other Android devices. projectzero.google/2026/01/pixe...
