I think this is super real, and I want the conversation to move here. The longer we stay in the "is it useful" debate, the longer we defer taking action to protect ourselves in a changed world.

I've been seeing an alarming pattern in OSS GitHub communities lately: people just scraping issues, pinging maintainers with urgency to get the issues assigned to them and producing PRs (mostly through coding agents) within minutes of maintainers agreeing to assign the issue.

least surprising thing ever: llms are NOT ANALYTICS TOOLS. “it explained everything so confidently, nobody questioned it” literally “so confident” is a red flag.

@steipete.me hey! I saw on your repo to ping you on social (or email) about speaking at conferences! I organize @renderatl.com and I would love to have you keynote our AI track this year. We also created an open source award show, that I would love to nominate your projects for! 👇🏾 commits.dev

commits.devThe Commits Award Show | August 12, 2026Join us as we honor open-source innovators, share their stories, and give them the flowers they deserve. The real reward of open-source? The community that builds it.

MCP is about to do to user experiences, what API did in the 2010s While you may not like AI, your customer & user base is eating it up and demanding it in your app interactions. MCP will become a standard within the next year.

For too long, Open Source developers have been overlooked and taken for granted. Our goal with The Commits is to provide a platform where open source can finally have their biggest night at the same level as The Oscars or The Grammys...but at The Commits ⬇️

RenderATL is proud to announce The Commits, an award show celebrating the heart of open-source — the people. Join us as we honor open-source innovators, share their stories, and give them the flowers they deserve. Learn more about The Commits & submit a nomination by visiting commits.dev today!

Can't code? I'd say ask a friend, but at the rate AI is improving, maybe you won't even need to. Someone built a functional Appview with replit overnight. bsky.app/profile/doll...

The Appview code should have everything blueskys appview does, the only problem it is running into is getting the right numbers for database connections and pooling. github.com/dollspace-ga...

Big conference with community conference pricing. Tomorrow 👇🏾

Yes, you read that right — tickets go on sale TOMORROW This will be the lowest price these tickets will be offered at, and we’re only releasing a limited amount. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. You can’t miss the biggest tech experience of 2026 so grab your ticket tomorrow! #RenderATL2026

This is a big reason why we’re starting The Commits awards. Open Source needs an outlet to honor, appreciate and thank the often thankless work of maintainers, ESPECIALLY the next generation! More details to come!

This is unconscionable. Where are the members of Congress speaking about this? Esp the ones who call themselves Christian (yeah, I mean Speaker Mike Johnson). Does the media even ask about it?

For nearly 60 days, no food, fuel, medicine or other items has entered the Gaza Strip, blocked by Israel. Aid groups are running out of food to distribute. Markets are nearly bare. Palestinian families are left struggling to feed their children.
