Anything that the SNP are responsible for and that doesn’t work is ALWAYS blamed on England. I don’t think I have ever seen them take responsibility for any failure or problems. It’s very similar to the old UK Govt defence or ‘Brussels’.

Her: "OK I'll go out but I'm not drinking" Also her, two hours later:

Imagine if the Scottish election had been held now. The SNP are impressive political operators, but they're also incredibly lucky.

Andy Burnham (+9) in Scotland in line with his GB-wide ratings, making him currently the one politician with net favourability in Scotland. YouGov Burnham +9 Swinney -19 Badenoch -24 Polanski -25 Farage -58 Most no firm pro/anti view of Holyrood figures, bar Swinney yougov.com/en-gb/articl...

Of the many reasons to be an AI naysayer, getting upset that it is leading to more bug exploits (e.g. french fridges) is a bit of a silly one. Sure, in the short term it's not great, but exposing such things forces such bugs to be fixed, ultimately resulting in better, safer software.

I don't really care about royalty or royal stories, or whether we are a monarchy or not at all, but it does seem to me as if Earl Spencer has basically spent a large fraction of his adult life exploiting the death of his sister, and that's a bit grubby.

Two things that are simultaneously true: 1) At some point in the future, true artificial intelligence may prove to be an existential threat to humanity and we ought to take that seriously in the medium to long term 2) In LLMs, the "AI" companies have not developed true artificial intelligence*

You know when you watch a film and at the start there are characters that seem pretty innocuous, and by the end it's revealed that they're really total evil bastards? This pair give off that vibe.

Slightly alarming seeing all the people on here sharing their childhood memories of 25 years ago. I mean I was only just an adult, to be fair, but time man... time.

Not sure I really understand the people who use Bluesky to routinely quote post Twitter posts. Like, wasn't the point of using Bluesky to get away from that quagmire?

I'm kind of hazy on this, but I'm pretty sure the last time Germany elected fascists it didn't go so well, right?

Farage said he "deplored" anyone wearing masks or balaclavas at public demonstrations. He added: "You should not be allowed to be masked up, balaclava-ed up and go out and protest on the streets of our country. It is wrong at every level." Welcome to your core vote, sonny jim.

"No longer are Reform comfortably leading in all the opinion polls - in some they're not leading at all." I do wonder if Chris Mason understands words sometimes. Since Burnham became leader, Labour lead in roughly twice as many polls as Reform. "Some".

The SNP have spent a large fraction of their 20 years centralising power, and are continuing to do so. I wonder if their voters consider this ironic?

Ordered something from Germany. On the invoice it literally says: "Dispatch mode - UPS + Brexit surcharge 26,01 €"

I mean look, it's just a clumsy way to make SpaceX semi plausibly resemble an AI company, so that investors invest.

It's kind of wild that, as far as I can see, there's been no polling at all on Scottish Parliament voting intention since the election in May. Totally normal country.

I'm not sure I understand the business model of Starlink (and similar). Like, no one in a city is going to need to use it, surely? The rural market is by definition quite small. Rich military customers maybe?

It's sort of wild that the US president declares war and announces peace deals 3-4 times a week now and it's just...barely even news any more? Could it be unhealthy? Who can say!

Update: No deal, back to war, Trump says.

All these AI companies failing to practice the most basic sandboxing and firewalling protocols. Either they're incompetent or...

For someone so interested and obsessed about AI, Rory Stewart really doesn't seem to understand what it is at a basic level. So frustrating to listen to. IT IS NOT THINKING.
