I would like to once again remind all suburbanites, Republicans, and all those outside the tri-state area that the NYC you see on Fox News is no more real than, like, Narnia, or Atlantis.

On trend to have its lowest crime rate in recorded history? Save me from all this safety!

The idea that we can "easily" overthrow the regime in Iran is a fantasy of people that have never served. Afghanistan is back in the hands of the Taliban after 20 years of slaughter. Iraq still isn't peaceful. Libya is a war zone that's been in civil war since we dropped bombs. History is screaming!

We said if Trump was elected he would: 1. Let Israel do its worst on everyone 2. Abandon Ukraine, let Putin do his worst 3. Massively round up migrants for mass deportation 4. Impose tariffs that would wreck economy 5. Destroy fed govt 6. Try to end civil liberties 7. Retaliate So…7 for 7!

what people seem to believe is that there is a large number of criminal, layabout immigrants who can be easily found and deported. they support doing so snd are dismayed by the deportation of otherwise law abiding people. the problem is that the criminal group is imaginary!

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

Wow. New CBS poll finds majority (55%) supports the *general goal* of deportations, but a bigger majority (56%) dislikes how Trump is carrying them out. And 63% want due process. Again, we need a better discourse around public opinion on immigration, as I've argued: newrepublic.com/article/1961...

The message is clear: cars belong in our towns, but children don't. Our society is sprinting in reverse.

"Authorities told WBTV that adults must be held accountable in these types of incidents and should ensure their children are in a safe environment. The driver of the SUV has not been charged at this time, per WCNC."

"Of all the cruel and unjustifiable moves the Trump administration has made on immigration, this is one of the worst: The government is ending deportation protections for people who assisted US troops in Afghanistan. It’s a broken promise of the vilest kind," writes the Times Union Editorial Board.

So after learning from the tariff debates that the MAGA right thinks imports are bad, we're now seeing from the foreign students debate that they also think exports are bad — it's a really stupid vision of the country that will make everyone poor.

Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

This is a big, diverse country with only two political parties so putting together electoral majorities requires the party coalitions to be pretty loose including a wide range of different kinds of people. www.slowboring.com/p/what-can-w...

I’m reliably told this is cutting edge research with lots of commercial and defense applications that no one in their right mind would shutter.

Pam Bondi lobbied for Qatar & a private prison company, got paid $115K/month, then failed to disclose it during her AG confirmation. Now she’s gutted foreign lobbying enforcement under FARA and signed off on $400m planes. The corruption isn’t even subtle anymore.

Todd reposted

We’ve become so desensitized to corruption that the Attorney General who spent years lobbying on behalf of Qatar approved a private jet gift from Qatar and it’s not even in the top 10 scandals of the week.

Jamie Dimon says the *best case* scenario for the US is now a recession. Cool, cool. From the best economy in the world to a self-inflicted recession in 4 months. Gotta be some kind of record.

Todd reposted

The record is in, and it now reveals that those ammosexual gun fetishizers who sworn they needed an arsenal to stave off government “tyranny,” not only fully supported that tyranny, but bent all the way over when government obliterated the very Constitution they claimed to want to defend.

it's all so depressing and exhausting. we need a BIG FUCKING TENT to stop donald trump, and people like Matthew Yglesias need to be part of it, and honestly even people well to the right of him if we have any hope of succeeding.

Erratic ignorance is a good way to keep people from knowing your true intentions, but it's a sub-optimal way to run the largest economy in history.

It’s the devil’s way now There is no way out You can scream and you can shout It is too late now Because you have not been paying attention. 2 and 2 always makes 5

we live in an extraordinarily wealthier society than our parents and grandparents. our problem is that we have not invested enough of that wealth in social goods, but i don’t think anyone actually wants to return to a time when even a “good” factory job was backbreaking labor

Americans need to travel more to developing countries with high #tariffs designed to spur internal, export driven, growth, like Trump wants to do in the US. This is what you see. Rich people with cool expensive imported stuff & everyone else with cheap crap. Welcome to MAGuatemala.

Moment of clarity today in the Senate where Republicans sided with big banks & against customers. Higher fees, lower transparency. Now it goes to the House - so call your Member of Congress to ask how they’ll vote!
