Web 3.0 is just the web rediscovering its roots. Web 2.0 is an aberration whose initial promise ultimately failed to deliver, creating Tech Bros instead.

I wanted a little note-taking app for my desktop to jot things down during meetings so they can go into the right place later. Claude published it for me in less than the time it would take for me to find and test an existing one. And that's the state of software in late 2026.

I just described something as "very blocky, in a Picasso's Cybertruck kind of way", which I think is a pretty good burn, but also, the Cybertruck just gained a whole new design context in my head.

ICYMI, had a great time doing this interview with Chris Reynolds. We covered a lot of ground, including some of what I've been up to over the past 2 years worth open source supply chain security.

matt mullenweg logging into drupal’s issue tracker to heckle a 22-year old filename cleanup issue is the kind of inexplicable pot-kettle-black pettiness that makes me love him so much

In case anyone needs to know, if your wife tells you, "It would be nice to have a husband who could be relied upon to respond to text messages," the correct response is apparently not "How would you know?"

It's clear Automattic's business model is shifting toward trademark rent-seeking while it "defends" open source. FLOSS no longer needs outside detractors, we've got our own now, thanks.

Overheard conspiracy theory of the day: CFL rule changes are a result of Trump wanting to attack (and annex) Canada from within, starting by Americanizing our football to be like the NFL.

I'll say this louder for those in the back: #WordPress "5 for the Future" **cannot** be reformed or rescued without tearing up its foundation: it exists for the wrong reasons. Stop trying to fix it--tear it down and re-evaluate completely. #wpdrama

Matt: "Joost and Karim should go away and use open source to build a fork of WordPress with their ideals around governance." Joost & Karim: **Build something in 6 months that match their ideas of governance** Matt: "OMFG they built something in SECRET". #WCEU

As of 2020, 54% of U.S. adults aged 16–74 read below a sixth-grade level—about 130 million people with limited literacy, impacting jobs, health, and the economy. This finding comes from a Gallup report commissioned by the Barbara Bush Foundation and cited by Forbes.

Almost 10% of the entire Canadian electorate voted on the VERY FIRST DAY of advance polls because we’ve spent the last 3 months watching what happens when you elect a populist windbag who vilifies journalists and shits all over people’s fundamental rights. Thanks America. You really did us a solid.
